Ugh! That's my impression of this book. I haven't read anything else by Mieville, and certainly won't after this fiasco of a novel. His writing is like an obese man trying to dance a ballet. An odd analogy? An awkward sight? An utter disaster? Yes, yes, and yes, this book is that and worse. A disjointed plot and cardboard characters add to your frustration. And to further poke the reader's eye, Mieville fills up pages and pages describing passing scenes, scenes that will soon be forgotten, scenes that are not essential to the story.
