This book is definitely misnamed. There is hardly any reference whatsoever to fairies in here other than the author weaving in the word "folk" here and there but even when she does try to weave in something to do with "folk" it seems forced or an after thought - like they decided later to name the book the fairy party book and then added in some words to make the title fit. If you're looking for a book that hits on all sorts of holidays/celebrations (pagan, christian and commercial) throughout the year then this book can provide a good survey of traditions but that's about where it ends. Has some of everything, Dec 14 2003

We recently returned from a trip to Greece and although it was a bit tough to find vegetarian food when I did it was good and I was inspired to do some cooking when I got back. So I sought out a few cookbooks, this being one. This is a good cookbook. It has some of everything - appetizers (here are the ones I've tried - they were good: stuffed grape leaves, eggplant dip, spinach balls, cucumber/yogurt dip, chick pea dip etc), breads (haven't tried any of these but they have Easter bread, Christmas bread, pita etc), pasta dishes (the only one I've tried is the pasta salad with dandelions but there are other recipes too like spaghetti with mushroom and tomato sauce, baked macaroni with… Read more

Beautiful!!, Dec 14 2003

This was my first cd by Loreena McKennitt and I must say after loving this one I borrowed others from friends and bought more of my own. All are great but this one is one of my favorites. The lyrics and music are simply beautiful! Some songs are haunting in their slow development; others are toe tappers that you just want to sing along with. Some songs are very celtic sounding others have a mysterious almost middle eastern flavor. The variety is refreshing and the way that they are arranged on the cd all of the songs really flow together. They're all terrific!
