Greendale (W/ Bonus DVD) ~ Neil Young
5.0 out of 5 stars Like Wine & Cheese, Aug 27 2003
Aging like ... Neil Young, that is ....

Neil Young & Crazy Horse sound exceptional on this powerful, creative work. Young's creation of a story around a fictional town, "Greendale," is a masterful stroke, giving this legendary artist the format to enlighten us about (to 'slip in' lines here and there) his thinking on a host of issues ... all timely and relevant. The inclusion of the DVD is wonderful. It is a full length, solo Young concert in which he explains "Greendale" in great detail, in a way that helps the listener appreciate and understand the man and his purposeful creation all the more. And, indeed, "the Horse" has rarely jammed finer!

How To Win Friends And Influence People by Dale Carnegie

This book is indeed potentially life changing, as so many of the reviews have stated. It continues to speak volumes into my daily interactions with people even though I listened to it nearly four years ago.

I have found that following its advice does not make me phony or narcissistic - rather just the opposite (I suppose you can choose to try to pretend to care about people, but people are wiser than that). The book promotes understanding others' behavior and could have the very positive effect of reducing day-to-day conflict. Your blood pressure could lower and relationships flourish. It certainly has had this effect in my life.

And the(at times)dated language? Classic!

The reason is that, as I usually do, I scanned various reviews before I laid down my hard-earned cash for "Up." The low rating in the aforementioned mag raised my eyebrows and made me think twice about buying the album. What a mistake - huge, huge mistake - that would have been!!! Instead, I fell back on my experience with Gabriel's talent to take a worthy risk.

Even in Gabriel's seemingly least inspired works, lyrically, (such as "the Barry Williams Show" on Up, or "Steam" on his previous album, "Us," he manages to deliver beyond-inspired,… Read more
