Today, I got Volumen Plus DVD based on the reviews here at Amazon, particularly with regards to the nudity in two of Björk's videos. Although the videos were tastefully and artistically done well (reflecting Björk's talents as a visual artist), as a guy, I have to say that my expectations were not quite met. In Pagan Poetry, she was filmed either too close or too far away for her [mammary glands] to be fully seen; maybe it should have been filmed at multiple angles. As for Cocoon, it seemed as though she was covered with powder, and like Pagan Poetry, you couldn't get a real sense of Björk's physical beauty. Plumb ~ Jonatha & the Sto Brooke
|
After listening to the entire CD, I have to agree with Amazon.com's review of Plumb. Jonatha Brooke, a great songwriter, doesn't have the vocal range required of a soloist. This is most evident in songs such as Full-Fledged Strangers, Paris & Is This All? (appropriately named), where Brooke's voice is somewhat mediocre, even though the performances itself were good. Overall, this is a good CD comprised of well-written songs, performed by a very talented band. The only thing missing, as Paul Harvey would say, is "the rest of The Story" (former The Story's co-lead vocalist Jennifer Kimball).

For those of you who are looking for the perfect combination of contemporary jazz and the banjo, then you need to get this CD. Alison Brown and her band give a wonderful performance that is refreshingly upbeat. My only complaint of the CD is that its playing time could've been longer (than 36 minutes, 37 seconds). Still, this is a great CD to have.
