This is a quality read one educational theory that still is applicable to our modern schools - especially with the resurgence of traditional schooling. However, Dewey is a horrible writer and it's a frustrating read.

If you can get your hands on this book - do so. If you have a copy of it - buy another. If you have two copies - liberally lend one out (and fiercely protect the other).

In our changing spiritual landscape there are so many people with questions about their connection (or lack thereof) with the church - particularly the evangelical church. This book is great look into the variety of social and spiritual dynamics that involve why people leave churches, who leaves churches, and how the church/organization does or doesn't respond to this movement away.

You cannot read this book without marking up the margins of each page with your own creative ideas that springboard from the authors insights. This book draws the reader into a whole new paradigm of social innovation and organizational leadership.

It creates a healthy dissatisfaction in the reader which compels you to rethink your current values, strategies and approaches and think creatively about your organization. This book is strong affirmation for those individuals and organizations who believe that there can & should be a more "natural" and "organic" way of conducting business and service than we are currently investing.
