I have read all of Don Asslett's books on cleaning clutter, and many other clutter cleaning books by other authors. Although I find Don's "Clutter's Last Stand," "Not for Packrats Only," "Loose 200 lbs This Weekend" and "Clutter Free Finally and Forever" motivating and insightful, in terms of practical, hands on, lets-begin-cleaning, Michelle Passoff's "Lighten Up: Free Yourself From Clutter," is the best there is! No other book has given me such clear and precise methods to get to work and actually make changes-whether I'm motivated or not, and the results quickly become motivating. Miriam Toews' novel, A Complicated Kindness, is an intriguing, almost voyeuristic look into an unfamiliar culture. It is essentially about a young girl's life growing up in an oppressive, small town, where her family and community are trapped in legalistic religious traditions. It is an example of how, in this case Christianity, but any religion for that matter, can destroy a family and community when the essential love, hope and forgiveness are removed from the tenets of their faith. Still, Toews is careful to show that even the most messed up religious fanatics have their own brand of kindness--however complicated it may be. I thought this book was excellent! Don Aslett has a lively, easy to read style. The book is a compilation of testimonies from people who have either a problem with clutter or who have finally overcome their problem with clutter. It is inspiring, interesting and helpful.
