This is the only book about Charlie Chaplin I have read as I don't consider myself a fan. Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed his work over the years and I have known a few tidbits of his life and influence in the film industry. This is why I picked up this book when I saw it. I just wanted to know more about the man life and history.
Weissman's book really delivered. I found it to be interesting and informative both about Chaplin's early career and personnel life. I really enjoyed the details of Chaplin's early life (pre-Hollywood) but would have liked more about his later life.

Unlike the popular imagine of Casanova, Ian Kelly's book lets you get to know Giacomo Casanova as a man. You discover not only his sexual adventures but also such things as his love of travel and surprising love of food. You lean that Giacomo Casanova is humorous, self-deprecating and flawed. But, Ian Kelly is also able to open 18th century European life in a way that you can't help but be engaged in. This book is simply an excellent discovery into the man most remembered for his sexual adventures.
This is simply one of the best autobiographies. Stephen Fry is one of the most influential cultural forces in the UK and without a doubt; the rest of the world must get to know this man.
I had appreciated his work since "Blackadder" and "Jeeves and Wooster" and recently rediscover his quiet charisma in "Kingdom" and the "QI" series. But it was from his wonderful documentaries "Secret Life Of The Manic Depressive" and "HIV And Me" that made me respect the man.
