The text is aimed at quite literate adolescents. The vocabulary used certainly doesn't talk down to kids. The book contains cartoon figure sidekicks throughout the text and various activity areas that appear to be targeted at a much younger audience than the actual text. This mix of styles may be slightly off-putting for the more sophisticated teenage reader while younger readers will find the text daunting.

I've read various accounts of Tetlock's research and figured I should read the original. It has been a bit of a chore. If you aren't comfortable reading the results of factor analyses, you may be better off reading some of the more accessible authors who summarize Tetlock's work. The research is fascinating, but its presentation isn't aimed at the casual reader.

I have always had a reverence for books and leave them in pristine condition. Despite this life-long habit I found myself repeatedly reaching for a highlighter as I made my way through On Being Certain. I'm in the business of helping professionals improve their analytic skills and have read extensively in the areas of critical thinking, cognitive biases, risk assessment, etc. This book contained so many useful revelations that I was compelled to mark it up so that I can easily retrieve the gems for incorporation into my work.
