This is a wonderful resource for parents or teachers who want to explore art with their young charges but lack a lot of formal training. The book is organized by the elements of design, with a variety of activities at different skill levels to go with each element. Thus, it combines some theory with a variety of projects that can be adapted to many different situations. The projects are interesting, with lots of examples and suggestions for variations.

I bought these after much searching for sunglasses that would actually stay on my three-month-old's head. These were good--they would stay on, and the lenses were big enough to actually block out sunlight--but the straps held the lenses so close to her eyes that they touched her eyelashes, which seemed to bother her. If we loosened the straps to prevent this problem, the strap slid down the back of her head and no longer held the glasses in place. It seems to me that the glasses need a slightly different shape to prevent this problem.

We LOVE Llama LLama at our house. These books are a hit with both our children, aged 2 and almost 4. This one was particularly fascinating to our girls, who often struggle with sharing themselves. I really like how Mama Llama deals with the problem--she is calm and compassionate, helping Llama Llama through the disaster of having his favourite toy get ripped in two by promptly sewing it up, but is also firm in her expectations, putting the favourite toy aside until Llama Llama is ready to share it with his new friend.
