I first heard of Jean Ritchie through a video on old time music and this is the first cd i've been able to find of her recordings, the other ones are already out of print. If you love old time mountain music or traditional bluegrass, you will want this cd in your collection. Jean has one of the purest voices that i've ever heard in mountain style music. The only other Person that comes to mind is Anita Carter. There both Appalachian Angels in my opinion.

I was familiar with Anita Carter for years as part of the Carter Sisters group which use to tour with the Jonnny Cash Show but it wasnt until Bear Family released the single cd a few years ago that i had heard her solo recordings and the cd just blew me away! I was so glad when they released this box set of Anita's complete recordings. I just cant say enough about this woman's voice, she is without a doubt the greatest Female vocalist of all time, even though she never got the recognition or radio air play she deserved, all her fans know that what i say is true. Remember when Country was called Country & Western? this is one of the Pioneers that put "Western" into Country Music. I discovered Wilf's music a few years ago, when i picked up an old 33 Record of his music and after listening to it, i just had to go out and find as much of his work as i could on cd format and Bear Family is basically the only company that has issued any of his music onto cd and they have done a wonderful job. This set covers his recordings of the 40's and most of the 50's. This is some of the most Pure Music you will ever hear. I cant wait until i order the other box set.
