I have toy dogs and we have rock salt in Toronto and this year it was liberally distributed on the side walks. They did not find the balm enough protection but I am not sure that any balm would work. The thought that a micro-film of material would be able to protect the foot from a sharp piece of rock salt seems far fetched.
The product does go on well and it is not disliked by my two toy dogs but it did not protect them from the elements on a short 30 minute walk. My little girl had a bleeding paw and we had to go back to Mutt Mittens and other forms of boot torture for them to brave the salt pavements of Toronto.
