5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Doves? Better, April 8 2009
At first I was going to give this record 4 stars, but as it went on it just kept getting better and better. Upon second listen, I was utterly convinced that Doves are in fact the greatest band and most interesting band in the world right now.

There's a lot of great music out there and you can count Doves amongst it all. The stand-out tracks here are (not including the stunning two openers that everyone should know by now) House of Mirrors, The Greatest Denier, Compulsion and 10:03. Longtime fans will feel at home with these songs sonic structures, but the Doves throw in loops that will literally make you sit there in disbelief that four albums in and they're still able to add… Read more

I tried to make the title less corny, but it's too true to the point that there's no other way to describe it.

Whether you're new to Radiohead or an avid fan, you can't go wrong with this release. It really is bliss, absolute bliss. Each song is crafted in a delicate and incredibly melodic manner with each word coming out of Thom Yorke's mouth something that will provoke your thoughts and challenge your imagination. The band is as tight as they've ever been. Each note played here is crafted with the utmost of care yet nothing ever sounds contrived, pretentious or out of place. The people who gave this album one star never actually gave reasons, they just seem to generally dislike… Read more

I guess people haven't been digging this album. A bit of the dance intensity is gone, the lyrics are a hell of a lot darker and they sound less like Interpol and more like themselves. People couldn't handle it, and I guess I can see why.

This album is HUGE. Beyond huge, it's massive, it's ambitious and absolutely beautiful. Anyone digressing just didn't listen loud enough. Tom Smith's voice is as strong as it's ever been. He's right on with his vox and his lyrics are perhaps the most poetic I've heard since Richey Manic's on The Holy Bible.

Basically put people, if you just want an album to space off and dance to you won't find it here. Although there are solidly built… Read more
