I have read a lot of holocaust memoirs, and this one certainly is one of the best. Highly recommend it!

Irenka is so self-righteous, it is beyond annoying. I haven't even finished this book, I still have a couple of chapters to go...but she is just so, irritating, that I can hardly stand to read any more. I have read so many books on the Holocaust, and this is by far - the most frustrating one I have ever read. Irene can't say enough, "Oh little ol' me??? I am like a God to these Jews, leading them away from evil". She claims to have led such a "hard, war-time life" when actually, she is well-fed, well-clothed, and sleeping with a German major.
