A few words...hmmm! Succintly, I'm a rural family doctor who likes Star Trek, science fiction, and action adventure books. I'm a hockey nut (Go Oilers Go!) and I'm fiercely and proudly Canadian. Above all, I'm a Christian.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, May 9 2013
Wow, what a good movie! It certainly didn't seem like it lasted 2-1/2 hours as the time and story went by quickly. I had read when it came out in the theatre that a lot of research had been done to make it as accurate as possible even to the point of how Lincoln's voice sounded. Day-Lewis really seems to become Lincoln and the other actors step up as well. Even though the story is about passing a legislative bill (essentially that's what it's about!) the movie remains rivetting and entertaining. Highly recommended especially if one has any interest in history.

Excellent solo debut by Alan Doyle. This disc includes a great mix of songs written by him with many co-writers which gives a decent variety of songs. "I've seen a little" is being used by CBC for its fall lineup promos and is a very catchy tune. "The rules will all be broken" definitely has a Billy Joel-type feel to it. However, he doesn't stray far from his Great Big Sea roots as this disc does sound a lot like GBS. That's not a bad thing though as GBS is a great band making excellent music and Alan is the lead man. Therefore, anything he does will sound like what he's done before and as a GBS fan from before they were big, I say keep it up!

Nevertheless, I found myself rooting for the protagonists and empathizing with them. The pace was definitely fast and not a lot of time was spent on character or situation development; more could have been done and though it would have slowed the pace some, overall that would flesh the characters out more and given the reader a bigger and more colorful mental picture of the situation as well as a quick respite from the action. Ultimately, however, the ending was somewhat abrupt and unsatisfying: it just happened and the next words on the… Read more
