Not much to tell - I'm working "all the time". I'm an older woman (but still young at heart) with three grandchildren. However, William is by far my favourite hobby and activity - along with his sister, Neli - my two Yorkshire terriers. By the way (and this is no mean recommendation) - WILLIAM'S favourite movie is "March of the Penguins". Truly! I saw Les Mis (twice) in Toronto YEARS ago and loved it. My sister and her husband went to see this particular performance when it was actually recorded. They thought it was one of the best night's entertainment they had had - so I had to purchase this "edition" (there's something different in every performance/interpretation of the material). It WAS wonderful - and worth every penny. Ruthie Henshall's "Fantine" just breaks my heart, and Colm Wilkinson is still the quintessential Jean Valjean. I often find one or more of the songs chasing themselves around in my head and even transferred a couple to my iPod. I read Alice Sebold's book a couple of years ago - twice actually; I really like her writing style. In any event, I was given the DVD some time ago but hadn't watched it. I confess I was influenced by some slightly negative reviews (both in print and by friends)so I didn't make a point of "getting around to it". So, today, I watched the movie, almost expecting to be disappointed, but I have to say that I loved it. Yes, it's only a "treatment" of the book and quite a few things have been left out. However, I don't think that the basic story has suffered much and, if one had NOT read the book..... The entire cast of the movie really "did it" for me. Saoirse Ronan was perfection - what… Read more

This is an almost totally ridiculous movie. I say "almost" because, you know what? I actually rather enjoyed it and found it very amusing in MANY places. Some of the science behind the story is a bit whacked - but some of it is right on the money. In these recent months of volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis and other natural disasters, the paranoid among us must be having a field day stocking up on essentials (I'm not one of 'em - which may or may not be a good thing!) The special effects are all that one expects of a Roland Emmerich movie - over the top but well done for all that. The heroes are just like many of us - but braver. The villains are just like members of half the… Read more
