This album is interesting. There is no denying that. However, I find that it is boring after several listens. Many of the rhythms come off as similar, and the songs have very little movement. perhaps I just don;t get this album. I would recomend godspeed you black emperor or do make say think. they are much more interesting and varried, for me anyway.

After seeing Beth Orton live at Field Day I was impressed by her accoustic solo music, as well as her lively personality. I was so excited to buy this cd based on what I had heard, but was dissapointed when I received it. Very little of the folkish guitar work that I had fell in love with was audible on the CD, and Orton over-layers her work with poppy base and drums. At some points on this CD she reminds me of radiohead (faintly) or Beck (especially on "tangent"), and at times delivers the folk feel that I found so appealing, but for the most part comes off as poppy and frankly, boring. When I bought this album I was dissapointed. After hearing transmissions from the Satelite heart I was expecting another pure rock, energetic gem; this was not it. By no means is this a bad album, but given the previous performance and reccording of this band this fell below my expectations. The energy in this album is not as intense. There is not angst, very little anything, just a futuristic sort of narrative. The songs are excellently crafted, they have beautiful guitar and synthesizer, but they don't seem to say anything and are often repetitive or drowned out by drum machines.
