The first time I saw Coheed and Cambria was at a show at Avalon in Boston when they were opening for Thursday and Thrice. Thursday had been a perennial favorite of mine, although I wasn't much interested in Thrice (whose music has been done a thousand times before by a thousand other bands). But the surprise of the night came from the opening band Coheed and Cambria, who played a blistering set of progressive, rock, emo, metal, alternative that at times sounded like Rush, at others like Metallica, and at others some of the sings along parts of the bigger "screamo" bands that are popular today.
