This is not an easy movie. It is black and white and was filmed right at the end of the Second World War, so France really is poor and beaten up. There are some amazing scenes in this movies but overall I was somewhat disappointed. I guess movie makers have to create phony scenes in order to show the protagonist is capable of emotion. I have never read this biography of St. Vincent de Paul before and I found it honest and insightful. Most people agree that he was the Mother Teresa of his day. A truly saintly man who was not afraid to confront the rich and those who tried to take advantage of the poor. He was obviously not very successful politically, but even his foes admired the courage and honesty of his passion to help the poor. A great read which will inspire all of us to reach out to the poor in the spirit of Pope Francis.

What is quite stunning is the new vision he provides into really understanding that different people really do have different eye glasses and see the world very differently from us. It is so important not to take sides but to listen; in a different way than Dale Carnegie… Read more
