I live in Toronto (born and raised), am reasonably intelligent without being overly edumacated, I think I have one of the greatest senses of humour in the world but accept that I might be in the minority on that one. I like books, music, movies, video games, snowboarding, riding my motorcycle, summertime, maple fudge, the letter E and the number 2. I'm an upstanding citizen who sincerely buys into all that 'honesty is the best policy', 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you' malarkey, and unlike too many others the words 'Loyalty' and 'Honour' actually mean something to me. I have a solid older brother and a girlfriend I love very much (awwwww), an ok job (but not a career), a pierced eyebrow, one tattoo, one or two (or three) permanent scars, and a deep and abiding passion for hockey. Now for the lists... Top Five Authors: J.R.R. Tolkien, Iain Banks/Iain M. Banks, Dan Simmons, Douglas Adams and Neal Stephenson. Top Five Movies All-Time: The Matrix, High Fidelity, Braveheart, Fight Club and The Empire Strikes Back. Top Five Movies I've Seen In The Past Year: Jarhead, 40 Year Old Virgin, Kung Fu Hustle, Sin City and Lord of War. Top Five Songs: Foo Fighters 'Everlong' (#1), Rage Against The Machine 'Wake Up', Bob Marley 'No Woman No Cry', The Clash 'Train in Vain' and Marvin Gaye 'Let's Get It On'. Top Five Athletes: Wayne Gretzky, Mohammed Ali, Charles Barkley, Barry Sanders and Joe Carter (the only World Series-winning home run in history and he did it for my Blue Jays: Yesssss!). Top Five Plans For The Future: Marriage, fatherhood, a better job, a bigger motorcycle and a smaller gut.

Best album they've put out since Check Your Head, I must have listened to "Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win" with Santigold about 4 times in a row today on the way in to work. There is no way you can call yourself a B-Boys fan and not have this one, especially since this is MCA's final album and therefore the Beastie Boys final album.

This was my first Iain M. Banks book, and as such it retains a special place in my heart because THIS was the book that caused me to fall in love with his writing (I have since gone on to buy everything he's written, both science fiction and, um, regular fiction?). I've loaned my copy, or rather my second copy as I've read the first one to pieces, to various people and they have without exception loved it and gone on to read (and one would hope buy) more of his books without prompting. You can readily find a plot synopsis for this book elsewhere so I won't bother you with my own clumsy attempts, but I do want to say two things. First, if you have any appreciation at all for… Read more

The reason I love it is because about halfway through I suddenly find myself being an 8 year old kid again, laughing and cheering and jumping up off the couch and shouting "LANDLADY, YEAH!!!" every five minutes at the top of my lungs. It's not every movie that can evoke that kind of response from me, and so for that reason I truely love this film.
