"Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands" is one of the greatest songs ever, by anyone - period. It took up the entire fourth side when the double album originally came out in 65 / 66. I believe it clocked in at 26 minutes and 10 seconds (just from memory) Previous CD versions have this song cut by 60 % - down to 11 minutes and 12 seconds, I believe. That was a crime - Does this 2 CD set restore justice and give us the full version ??? I don't know. The album is a masterpiece for sure, and hence my 5 stars - but without the complete "Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands", I will remain appalled at the fact that Bob's management would allow this release at all.
Gee - It's nearly 20 years since this album came out. It does still stand up though.
"Sleeping Satellite" kicked off her career nicely - but unfortunately the next single, "In Your Care" - as powerful a song as it is - was too depressing for constant radio play and her momentum waned and never really recovered.
That is really too bad because the third single "Somebody's Daughter" was / is a killer / upbeat tune that demands you crank it up and sing and dance along with it. I am still waiting for an extended remix of it.
I guess I am going to have a long wait - but you don't have to
Pick up this album and / or her "Best of" and you will understand… Read more
