I"s, Vol. 1: Iori by Masakazu Katsura
I"s, Vol. 1: Iori by Masakazu Katsura
I''s is, quite simply, the best manga series I have ever read. Volume 1 starts us off by introducing Seto Itchitaka and the girl of his dreams, Yoshizuki Iori, who is, unfortunately, seemingly in a class far above himself. She is talented, beautiful, and popular, while he is... not. Thumbs up for the ever amusing Teratani too. Over the course of a further 14 volumes we see the characters and their friends age, mature, and experience the growth from adolesence and teenage attraction in their high school years to the harsh realities of adulthood and the development of what true love is.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, July 30 2011
With the high user feedback ratings, and the author's status as a Hugo and Nebula winner, I bought this book with high expectations. I leave with a disappointed taste in my mouth. The story starts out well enough, and it leads to an interesting enough premise, but then it just... crashes. The characters Martha, La, and even the protagonist, Matthew, are all two-dimensional with little growth or development. All that happens is they push a button and go into the future. That's it. There is little real plot or coherance beyond that. Some interesting science regarding dimensions is brought up near the end, but then never really explained. It's as if the author was writing it on the fly and… Read more
