I own "It Had to be You" and remember enjoying it somewhat, but not enough to pick up any other books by Susan Elizabeth Phillips because the book had simply failed to satisfy the romance reader in me. I have read this book cover to cover about half a dozen times, and have cried over it every single time, even knowing what was coming. James Patterson writes this book awkwardly, and perhaps that's what makes the read so endearing. The writing is simple and honest, without pretty words and complicated analogies and drawn out emotional monologues to make a reader feel like the writer is simply working too damn hard to touch their heart. I never read "The Secret," but did not feel like I missed out by reading this book first. "Ransom" is one of Julie Garwood's best writings as it is laced with all the elements that make her such a great writer--a courageous heroine, a handsome giant of a hero (with a gentle heart), characters we want to hold close to our hearts, a love that fills your eyes with tears,… Read more
