1.0 out of 5 stars Andelin: Enemy of The Gap, Feb 20 2006
By A Customer
This book is not just outdated, it is irresponsible. It spreads stereotypes and lies, and it sets women up for failure. The most disgusting claim Andelin makes is that if fathers are not perfectly masculine and mothers are not perfectly feminine, their children will become homosexuals. Not only is completely false, what's a "fascinating" mother to do when her child comes out, blame herself for wearing jeans? Andelin also claims that women should not go to college nor receive any career-specific training. I have to wonder how comfortable Andelin and her followers would be with male nurses, male kindergarten teachers, male hairdressers, or males salesclerks in the lingerie section (or more likely for them, male clerks filling women's orders for underwear from the Sears and Roebuck catalog). The advice that women should wear neither pants nor denim is laughable (the original publishing date of Fascinating Women predates the women's jeans industry; even the latest "updated" version never mentions the word "jeans"). If women "naturally" should dress differently than men to display their femininty, women should have worn pants for eons (both men and women wore similar robes and "dresses" for centuries). The claim that this book is based on the Bible and Christianity is the worst claim of all. We see no mention in Fascinating Womanhood of the many Godly women in the Bible (no Mary, no Abigail, no Esther, no Miriam, no Elizabeth, no Deborah, no Priscilla, no Rachab)--and no mention of the unGodly women either (no Jezebel, no Bernice). Perhaps this is because the bravery, courage, intelligence, strength, and deciciveness of many Biblical heroines flies in the face of Andelin's model of femininity. If these women lived today, they would have worn jeans.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT!, Feb 14 2006
By Joyce Majella (Bethlehem Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
Be smart and read this book before you get married and save yourself heartache. This is an excellent book that has worked for me. If it can work for my marriage (we were inches from a divorce), it can work for you. I'm SO grateful to my friend for giving me a copy of this book; I am 100% happier as a result. This is a book for real women though not those who want to be a man or whimps. This book also requires you to really look at yourself and stop centering everything around yourself. This is tough to do especially for women in today's society. If you can do it, the rewards are terrific. Good luck and happy marriages!

1.0 out of 5 stars Religious extremisms at its best, Jun 26 2004
By A Customer
If you firmly believe that woman are meant to be controlled by men and that you must do everything you can to please them (no matter how much it goes against your sense of right and wrong) then by all means, read this book.

If you are living in the 21st Century and are able to see that every person in this world is an individual as well as being equal, you will get nothing from this book but giggles.

Times have changed, and this book is for those that are stuck in the past and for people who married their fathers.
