Product Description

What is this book about?

This comprehensive compendium provides a broad and thorough investigation of all aspects of programming with ASP.NET. Entirely revised and updated for the 1.0 Release of .NET, this book will give you the information you need to master ASP.NET and build dynamic, successful, enterprise Web applications.

What does this book cover?

Here are just a few of the topics covered in this book:

  • What ASP.NET is, and how it makes building applications even easier
  • How easy it is to work with ASP.NET pages and server-side controls
  • Accessing data of all kinds in your ASP.NET pages
  • An introduction to ADO.NET
  • Getting started with ASP.NET and the .NET Framework
  • Creating ASP.NET pages, working with server controls, and data management
  • Developing, securing, and configuring web applications
  • Exploring Base class libraries, components, and extensibility
  • Working with Web Services and ASP.NET in the mobile arena
  • Debugging, performance, migration, and interoperability
  • Integrating this knowledge in real world development contexts

Who is this book for?

This book is aimed at experienced ASP developers working at the leading edge — rather than the casual ASP developer or beginner. We do not cover the basics of COM, ASP, or the .NET programming languages. This book is also ideal for Visual Basic developers who want to move into Web application design.

What do you need to use this book?

Here's what you need to know in order to use this book:

  • A solid understanding of ASP
  • Familiarity with VB or C-based syntax (C++, Java(TM), or C#)
  • A desire to develop sophisticated ASP.NET applications using the .NET Framework
  • A desire for a comprehensive and in-depth guide to this exciting new technology

From the Publisher

This book is aimed at experienced ASP developers who are working at the leading edge, rather than the casual ASP developer or beginner. For example, we do not cover the basics of COM, ASP, or the programming languages we use in this book.

You don't need to be experienced with ASP to make the most of this book although being relatively comfortable with ASP concepts with certainly help. This book is also ideal for Visual Basic developers who want to make the move into Web application design. You should also understand the general principles of the use of components, and have knowledge of Visual Basic (or VBScript). Some of the samples are written in other languages, such JScript and C#, but you don't need to be fluent in these languages to be able to use this book. --Ce texte provient d'une édition qui n'est plus publiée ou qui est non diponible.

2.0étoiles sur 5 MCSD.NET,MCSE,MCDBA,MCSA and MCT, Déc 4 2003
Par Michael Youssef Labib "Someone" (World, Country) - Voir tous mes commentaires
(REAL NAME)
oh, I hope that the authors read my review. This could me the best ASP.NET book in the market but it isn't. Many pages, many chapters and many information but all these need time to manage and arrange. I think that the former publishing company just wanted to publish 1000+ book. Please in the future try to make in better. Something like Professional ASP.NET using C# and Professional ASP.NET using VB.NET. And please authors not more than 1000 in the same book.

Alghough I like many of the former wrox's titles.

3.0étoiles sur 5 You'd think it would be more help, Mai 30 2003
I got this when it was basically the only book out there. Since then, whenever I have an ASP.NET problem I open this book, search vainly through the 1300 pages for coherent help, then give up and go to google groups. With all that writing you'd think that I would occasionally find my answers in there...

1.0étoiles sur 5 Disjointed [stuff], Mai 12 2003
Par Daniel J. Segan (New York, NY) - Voir tous mes commentaires
(REAL NAME)
This book is 1300 pages of [stuff]. Its written by about 10 people who obviously didn't look at each others segments because they repeat the same stuff over and over. If they took out all the information that was repeated throughout the book it would be about 300 pages. I was better served by the MSDN documentation. Wrox used to have a good reputation for solid books but it seems like quantity over quality is what they are after.
