Product Description

What is this book about?

Geared toward programmers with no prior development knowledge, Beginning AppleScript serves as a comprehensive guide to using AppleScript on the Mac OS X platform.  This title introduces the reader to AppleScript, and then illustrates how to efficiently start writing scripts through sample programs as each concept is introduced. Exercises at the end of each chapter allow the reader to test and demonstrate their knowledge on how to write functional scripts. The appendices include a list of other resources for additional developer information, and a summary of the language suitable for reference.

From the Back Cover

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent AppleScript Instructions!, Mar 18 2006
By A Allen (Toronto, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
Don't let the picture on the front scare you. This is the best instruction book I have ever read. It is written with plenty of examples, and every example is explained in line-by-line detail. There are no missed steps here. Before reading this book, I had no AppleScript experience, though I do have lots of experience "programming" in FileMaker Pro. After working through to about the middle of the book, I was able to write a sophisticated script that, in combination with records in a FileMaker Pro database, grabs a list of files from a folder (including subfolders), moves them into a different folder, and renames them. There were over 3000 files being manipulated, and I could never have done it by hand. You might experience a higher learning curve if you are a complete programming novice (it's branded as a Programmer-to-Programmer text), but the text and examples are so clearly laid out that I would still give it a try. This is an excellent book for those wanting to learn AppleScript.
