Product Description

The author applies a no-nonsense approach to dieting, exercising, disease treating, and other aspects of everyday life. Our looks, longevity, as well as our physical and mental conditions result from the way we eat, breathe, and take care of all our physical and psychological needs. The question is not limited to nutrition only, as is the case of dieting programs.

4.0 out of 5 stars There is something for everyone, Oct 28 2007
By M. Caruso - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)

The book, is packed with information about body cleansing, treatment of obesity and other common ailments, proper nutrition, proper breathing techniques, taking care of your back, and much more. It is very comprehensive and compact. In fact a little too compact for my eyes - it would be easier to read if the letters were bigger. I wouldn't mind if it was published in four or five hundred pages, or even in two different volumes.

You will find in the book many good alternatives to visiting your physician with a small disorder or inconvenience as we often tend to do. An example -- drink a raspberry tea, instead of taking aspirin. Among all the plentiful advice you will also come across some that you might want to take with a grain of salt, but if you approach it with an open mind you will certainly find a lot of useful recommendations.

I happen to disagree with the author on some issues. Specifically, in my opinion the calculation of life expectancy seems to be based on some wrong assumption, but my goal is not to live 150 years anyway... As some of other reviewers mentioned, I wouldn't make my own toothpaste, either. However, after you separate the grain from chaff and ignore all the elements that you consider too difficult or impractical, you will still be left with a lot of useful guidance that will help you lead healthier life.

The liver cleansing routine does require two full days of total devotion to your own self. It is not pleasant, either, as you first need to fasten for over a day, and then you need to drink alternatively olive oil and lemon juice. It is not easy, but it is very rewarding. I felt very much rejuvenated after cleansing of my liver. The good news is that you do not need to do it more often than twice a year.

The author also suggests fasting at least a few days a month. Not as a means to losing weight, but as a self-cleansing routine. Alternatively, if you prefer the easy way, take sauna each few days... By the way, the author also suggest an alternative, easy way of liver cleansing with the help of apple juice, but my experience tells me that "the easy solutions" most of the time don't bring about as good results as "doing it the hard way". And so on, and so forth...

To summarize: It is a good book, just pick up what you find useful and ignore the stuff that does not suit you. There is something for everyone. It's a very much recommended title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Common Sense, Mar 4 2008
By A. Steele (Dallas) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
There are some books that sell themselves without any help from marketers. I think "Can We Live 150 Year?" is one of them. I learned about the book by the "word of mouth" - a friend of mine got it from her physiotherapist, and she suggested me to get one as well. I got one, and then I got a few more... "Can We Live 150" has become my favourite small gift to my friends. I am now ordering them directly from the author's website. Yesterday I received from the publisher two copies of the second edition of the book.

The author, former head of Center for Health Sciences in Moscow, shares his knowledge with the obvious intent to help others. Worth noticing is the fact that his remedies are either home-made or easily obtainable anywhere. From that point of view, the book is absolutely noncommercial.

The book is made up of seven parts. I found all the parts equally interesting and informative, apart form Part Five which is dealing with questions sent to the author by the readers of his other books. However, since this chapter deals with specific problems of the readers, some may find it more useful then all other chapters... You can use the Amazon "Search Inside" feature to see the book Contents and to read a few sample pages.

The book is as simple and down-to-earth as it can possibly be. You will not find here any exaggerated claims of the type "lose 30 pound is 30 days", but you will find a lot of honest advice on leading healthy life style. Some might find the title (living 150 years) rather "ridiculous". However, you will not find that the author tries to make you believe to live 150 years. What he is pointing out is the potential life span of a human being on the assumption of providing him with the ideal living conditions.

The author realizes that the contents of his book, concerning practically all aspects of human body, cannot be free of controversy. It is understandable that experts can point out flaws of arguments and insufficient accuracy of details. But he also says: "I wrote the book with the WIDE GENERAL PUBLIC IN MIND." He further says: "If, as a result of my advice, some people start feeling better, some get cured, and some realize the necessity of health maintenance, the objective of this book will be fulfilled."

It is a different kind of book. To make sure that you are getting what you really want, do your research. Apart from "Search Inside" at Amazon, you can read many excerpts from the book at Google Print (just type the book title in Google search window,) and especially at the author's website, which is also easy to find.

I also highly recommend the second book by Dr. Tombak titled "Cure the Incurable". It is a great continuation to "Can We Live 150 Years". Among others, it discusses such "incurables" as diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, and even baldness (!). One Appendix is devoted to remedies against diseases from A to Z, another Appendix features Healthy Recipes. Both books are a MUST HAVE for anyone committed to healthy living, and getting them in one package saves on shipping cost.

5.0 out of 5 stars A bible for living a long and healthy life, Feb 3 2008

Over the years I have collected a hodge-podge compendium of diverse but useful information for regaining or maintaining my health. When disease would appear, I researched scores of books on the subject, evaluated many different approaches, and then experimented until I found something that worked. As my body has changed, some solutions that worked before no longer worked. The task of maintaining the body has become much more complex.

For some time I have been wishing for a comprehensive resource that had all the successful approaches that I have tried over the years. I also desired a resource that afforded new ideas which would benefit my family and me as we get older. A few months ago I noticed that I had bags under my eyes like the actor Humphrey Bogart had in his latter years. About the same time I started to accept baggy eyes as a natural consequence of aging, I began reading Mikhail Tombak's book. On page 144 I read that poor kidney or bladder function causes bags under the eyes. Wow! I thought I can clear up a kidney/bladder problem and get rid of these bags at the same time. The remedy worked, and I began using the cleansing program which has noticeably enhanced my energy level.

I verified from my own past experience that many of the secrets in this book are valid such as the great importance of water as a healer, yes, plain unadulterated water, breathing, detoxifying, exercise, etc. This book speaks not only of diet and nutrition but many more secrets amassed from extensive research. I whole-heartedly encourage everyone to avail themselves to "Your Body Maintenance Handbook." Let this book prove itself as a way to a longer, healthier life.
