Product Description

Full of beautiful, heart-wrenching, and hilarious stories, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years details one man's opportunity to edit his life as if he were a character in a movie.

Years after writing a best-selling memoir, Donald Miller went into a funk and spent months sleeping in and avoiding his publisher. One story had ended, and Don was unsure how to start another.

But he gets rescued by two movie producers who want to make a movie based on his memoir. When they start fictionalizing Don's life for film--changing a meandering memoir into a structured narrative--the real-life Don starts a journey to edit his actual life into a better story. A Million Miles in a Thousand Years details that journey and challenges readers to reconsider what they strive for in life. It shows how to get a second chance at life the first time around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely Inspirational, Nov 22 2009

I couldn't put the book down. It really made me think. Donald Miller is dealing with a profound question: "What makes a life story worth living?" He breaks it down and causes you to imagine a better life. He nudges you to actually live a better life. If you take what he says seriously, I suspect you will never be the same. I have not stopped thinking about it in the three weeks since I read it. Plus, Donal Miller is a superb writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life-Changing Book!, Sep 30 2009
By Blair Roberts (canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
i wasn't really sure what to expect. i love all of his previous works, but it has been a while since he put something new out. i had high expectations, but have learned to lower my expectations when it comes to new books, because i am often disappointed. that is not the case with this book. i had high expectations and he met every one of them.

i completely misunderstood the point of this book when i first heard about it coming out. i heard donald miller was writing a book about story, and i assumed it meant that he was writing a book about how to write stories. he was, but not about how to write stories with a pen. he shares with us how to write a story with our life. the premise of the book is "what if we viewed our life as a story?" what elements of a great book or movie make it great? what elements of those can we add to our own life? it is so simple, yet he put it in a way that made a lightbulb go off in my head. we are all living some kind of story. is our story one worth telling?

he examines his own life and with tough honesty about himself, shows how he changed his story into something bigger than what he had been living. donald miller is an honest writer, and that is one of the main reasons i relate to his books so well. he admits mistakes and faults, and isn't afraid to be honest about who he is. this book struck a chord deep within me. i am so thankful for the chance to read it. i would recommend you do the same.

5/5 on the blair-o-meter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Your life - a Story, Sep 29 2009
By Christina Banks "Stina Rose" (Deep River, ON Canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
After two movie producers contact him, Donald Miller gets the unique opportunity to recreate his life. The process of making a movie causes Don to realize that every life is a story, and some people are living bad stories. This idea propels Don forward, causing him to seek out good stories of his own to live. A Million Miles in a Thousand Years is a book about the journey each of us makes, trying to live a meaningful life.

As a writer, I enjoyed the idea that each of us are living a story. Our choices and motivations help decide if we are living a good story or a bad one. Most life stories are just plain boring. We get up, go to work, come home, eat dinner, watch the game, and go to bed. No one would want to buy a book about a life like that! Through reading this book, I was challenged to re-evaluate my own story. I had to ask myself if I was living a life worth talking about, or was I going down the boring path of comfort and ease. After all, it is the unexpected complications of life that often lead us to a better story. It's true in fiction and it's true in life! I enjoyed this book.
