Product Description

Amazon.com essential recording

One of the defining albums of thrash metal, Master of Puppets is arguably Metallica's best album (as well as their last with bassist Cliff Burton). Focusing on the concept of power and abuses thereof, this is a collection of complex, intelligent music, played at about a hundred miles an hour. Not that these are short songs; this eight-song album clocks in at over an hour, which makes it all the more impressive that not one moment on this recording is boring. In tackling various approaches to their subject, Metallica is insightful lyrically as well as musically: "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" is from the point of view of an institutionalized inmate and "Disposable Heroes" is the perspective of a soldier. If all you've heard of Metallica is what's been on the radio recently, check this one out. You're in for a surprise. --Genevieve Williams

Album Description

2008 reissue of the 1986 album, Master of Puppets by Metallica which was ranked eighth on the list of the biggest selling groups in history, and one of the most influential bands in music. Metallica proved its metal with this groundbreaking album and it was hailed as a masterpiece by critics far outside Heavy Metal's core audience. Master Of Puppets sold over half a million copies at its time of release without any major video/radio airplay, making it the band s first record to be certified Gold by the RIAA. It was the last album the band recorded with bass player Cliff Burton before his death later that year.

(TOP 50 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
"Master Of Puppets" can only be described as a masterpiece of trash metal,it has even been said that it was the greatest metal album ever,While everyone has different opinions, including Metallica fans and i think that its a great album and their most popular album definatly, but certainly not Metallica's best in my opinion(i would say its "Ride The Lightning").This album is highly respected by metal listeners everywhere and with reason,it has many great tracks and its metal from beggening to end.The title track alone is worth buying this album for,its a classic of metal and an epic song at over 8 minutes."Master Of Puppets" is the album that really putted Metallica on the map in first place and the tour with Ozzy Osbourne for that album was great, with the fans boing Ozzy and asking for Metallica.Yes this album is rich in moments, songs and history.Speaking of history, this is sadly the last to feature the great Cliff Burton on Bass,he died at such a young age in a tragic road accident. This has got to be one of the finest metal albums ever made, nothing but great songs here,ok maybe some exceptions but its still a masterpiece from the mother of Trash-Metal.The 8 minutes title track is one of the best metal songs ever, now i have probabaly listened to this song more than i should have but it remains a classic."Battery" is great intro to the album with great drums for Lars."Orion" is a killer instrummental."Lepper Messiah" is brutal."Damage Inc" has a terrific intro."Sanitarium" is another classic on this one and i have already said enough for the songs i think, they're pretty much all good making this album fully deserving its 5 star rating. And the production is great too, unlike their next album "...And Justice For All".Evryone plays great here,Lars is great at drums,Kirk does some nice solos and they're all good on this one! This was back in 1986,when Metallica were innovators and had created trash metal with their first album and were refining it with this particular album amongst others. They receved nearly no airplay if any but that was wasn't part of theiir plans they just wanted to rock, and rock they did. This was before Metallica became sold outs years latter, this was when they truly rocked and gave everything they had. This over 20 years ago when still had the ideas, vison and creativity to make a masterpiece such as this.It reached Platinum and achieved that without a video and radio air time,it seems the metalheads all reunited to buy this one. There ain't much more to be said except that its a must have and that i highly recommend it!
