Three warnings for potential buyers. First, this DVD is in square, old-TV format. The original film was shot in widescreen (2.35:1 ratio, so you will be missing the left and right sides of the image. Second, this particular transfer is weak, being blurry and with poor colour rendition. Third, and perhaps more serious for users of Amazon, as with other movies, vandals have been at work on the product description, replacing the actual headline actors with a string of minor bit players. Presumeably this is the work of flamer teens, but when I brought previous instances of vandalism to Amazon's attention, nothing happened. So, buyer beware: product descriptions on Amazon cannot be relied upon one hundred percent.

Although the motives behind the British invasion of Zululand is a painted little thin in the movie, I thoroughly enjoyed this production. The story depicts arrogance, followed by the gallantry and hopelessless of the British troops, as they are overwhelmed by the brave Zulu warriors protecting their homeland. Peter O'Toole is suberb as General Lord Chelmsford, who is depicted as responsible for the debacle. There are also beautiful vistas of Natal, South Afica. The only shortcoming ... I wished the story had continued with more details on the aftermath and effects of the defeat. The end of the battle is the end of the movie!
