Product Description

From Amazon.com

Movies with "wacky" titles are almost never any good, and Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! was intentionally made to be an instant golden turkey. Despite that, and the grade-Z production values, this is a regularly funny film. You need to be a fan of the kind of low-budget horror movie it's spoofing, and you need to be very forgiving of the technical ineptness and frequent clunkers, but it works. The story? Well, tomatoes attack, basically. Jack Riley and the San Diego Chicken are in it, and that genuinely alarming helicopter crash you see in an early scene was a real accident. Seen now, the whole ratty affair brings back agreeable memories of the circa-1978 college-movie/midnight-cinema era, when seeing this film was virtually unavoidable. The sequel, Return of the Killer Tomatoes! (with a young George Clooney), is actually an even funnier film. Director John De Bello would continue to squeeze the Tomatoes franchise for years to come. --Robert Horton

4.0 out of 5 stars A classic only because it was a first, Sep 17 2006
By bernie "xyzzy" (Arlington, Texas) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
Tomatoes gone wild consuming unsuspecting humans. Can our government find a solution before it is too late? And will that solution be worse than the red minus?

This is a high budget film but they pocketed most of the money so it would not be pretentious. It was filmed in San Diego, California; this will soon become the location of the avocado jungle of death. Many great actors wanted to play the main parts but they were turned down so that they would not out shine the tomatoes; David Miller got the position of Mason Dixon

This film is so innovative that you will see the themes used over again in many movies to come such as "Mars Attacks." Notice how real the media interviews are; they look just like what you see on TV News today, as they brow beat the victim. And how many times have you see the use of sophisticated music to squelch the savage beasts?

While watching this film a co-watcher took advantage of the situation and snuck up behind to roll tomatoes past me.

5.0 out of 5 stars FUNNY!, Jul 14 2004
By "wdtench" (Lincolnton, NC) - See all my reviews
Even thought the movies plot's not that great, the film itself is so funny you can't help but love it. The songs are incredibly stupid, so are the characters, storyline, and pretty much everything else about the movie, but it's great! It even has great sequals! At least that's something Hollywood's never done.

3.0 out of 5 stars Who made the salad?, Mar 19 2004
By A Customer
Yes, there are movies made to be bad. The producer of this film made a wholehearted and sincere effort to make this the most appalling and repugnant movie of all time. I'm not sure of the success since I can't make comparisons; I don't usually waste my time or money viewing these types of films. Here we get to see the havoc wreaked on one of California's finest cities, San Diego. It left me to think where the Padres and Chargers would play their home games and where the Marine Corps would relocate their west coast boot training facilities if the tomatoes succeeded in destroying the city. If you are entertained by these types of flicks, you won't be disappointed by this one. Did they ever make a sequel where the tomatoes attacked Camden, New Jersey to get their revenge on the Campbell Soup Company?

Some movies are so bad, they are good...unintentionally. However, this movie actually tries to be funny and fails miserably. Read more
