Fable 2 is the anticipated sequel to the popular original that sold more than 3 million copies. Created by famed game designer Peter Molyneux, Fable 2 for Xbox 360 features an epic story that picks up 500 years after the first game. It offers an open world environment giving players a massive amount of freedom to explore and play as they please, with every decision made contributing to the game itself.

Fable 2

Players:

Online: 2

Gameplay Modes:

You are free to roam the world of Albion any way you like. View larger.
Every Choice Has Its Consequences
Fable 2 provides players with a truly immersive experience where a virtually limitless number of choices can be made, all of which have their own consequences, making each game unique. When you start the game, you choose either to play the role of a boy or girl, and depending on your choices, the hero will grow up to be tall or short, good or evil. Players can get married and have children; female player characters will become pregnant, which will then be reflected by their physical appearance.

Early in the game, players are presented with a stray dog for a best friend, who will need to be fed and loved, and will accompany the player throughout his or her life. Depending on the player, the dog will change appearance and assist him or her in various ways, such as alerting of impending dangers and attacking enemies.

Players inhabit the world of Albion and are free to roam the land to as they please. Players can use different expressions to communicate with others, such as taunting and laughing, and even belching or farting.

As the players grow, so does Albion, reflecting the choices that were made earlier in the game. Every house, hut, castle, and dungeon can be purchased if the player wishes. Players can buy up all the land in a town and can become mayor, king, and even emperor of the entire land.

Fable 2 presents a dynamic and free-roaming world that doesn't demand a player to take any one set path. At the same time, players seeking a plot line will find an epic story and quest that they can follow if they wish, along with many side adventures.

Fight Using Different Weapons and Magic
Fable 2 introduces a new combat system that allows for mastery of hand weapons, such as swords, long range weapons such as cross-bows and guns, and, of course, magic. Players improve at each discipline with time, and can combine different combat styles when they fight. Other advanced design features include tactical positional advantages that can bring new strategic elements into combat.

Bring Other Players into Your World
Fable 2 has a multiplayer mode that allows you to bring other players into your own world. Consistent with the rest of the game, the actions of these other players can be permanent and affect your world. You can explore and fight together with these other players, share treasures, and even fight each other.

Note: Fable 2 will not ship with Online Co-op mode. An update with this functionality is rumored to be released shortly after the launch of the game.

Xbox LIVE Arcade Mini-Games
Gamers can play minigames through Xbox LIVE Arcade and earn currency that can be used in Fable 2 to purchase weapons, armor, and other items for the hero.

Fable 2 is rated M for having mature content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older.

Depending on your choices, the protagonist can turn out wildly different -- male, female, good, evil, and more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not all that much fun, April 20 2009

Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
Fable 2 is beautiful to look at but it's gameplay gets repititious very quickly and the game completely lacks replayability which is strange given the premise of the game. Since the whole idea of Fable is that your actions have consequences you'd think it'd be fun to go back and try to do things differently and see the outcome but the problem is, the outcomes aren't interestingly different enough. It's very predictable and that is why I would suggest this game as a rental or wait for it to come out used at a lower price. It's just not worth the price tag.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Fabled Fable has Returned, Nov 24 2008

Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Fable 2 has finally been released from Lionhead studios, a producer that seems to only put out good Fable games. Fable 2 isn't so much a videogame with a real challenge or difficult bosses to beat. Fable 2 is more a story, that can be played and a life that can be lived digitally good or bad. The story begins with the player male or female living in Bowerstone as poor and destitute orphans, only to find an ancient music box that gets the main character shot, and his/her sister murdered. And thus begins the story of revenge and depending on the character a world that is either idyllic or fallen, with a great deal of pointless options to make your heroic or villanous mark on the world.

As I stated before the game isn't really a game, it being so very easy to succeed and even death isn't a huge problem, considering there is re-spawning at the point of death with full life and no real penalty. Fable 2, however, is just fun and technically solid with solid presentation and decent progression. The combat system is good, with the character being able to use and upgrade melee fighting, ranged gun battle, or magic attacks. The transition between the fighting from melee to ranged being well done with specific experience being gained for the specific attack used.

Fable 2 for all the lovely environments and interesting character development has some negatives. Mostly that the game offers no real challenge, nor does it really varies in the side-quests or jobs that the main character can undertake. An example of this is that in the game the player can take jobs like blacksmithing that makes money for the player easily then you can get all the armour, weapons, potions, property that you want or need, then there are the more mission based jobs and quests which are repeated constantly. The combat saves the game several times with this repetition. However, the game is still very enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed every second of it, Sep 27 2009

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Story: City of Bowerstone, 18th century ... you are a poor boy/girl living on the streets with your older sister Rose. You meet a rich man, Lord Lucian, who takes you and your sister in his castle, not out of care but out of far more sinister purposes. He is searching for something and when he realizes that Rose does not have it he kills her and then he kills you out fear that you will tell. This is where your story begins... and it ends with you confronting Lord Lucian. But this is not the most difficult part. The true challenge is presented in a form of a choice you need to make at the very end that will affect you and every single living being in Albion.

The game is all about choices you make. They shape you and the world you live in. The way you fulfill your quests will either make the world the best place to be or plunge it in eternal darkness. Are you the Guardian of Light or are you the Evil's right hand?

Gameplay: It is very easy to play the game on XBOX. Nothing more to add to it. The only reason why this game is 4/5 is because of the glitches that you may encounter. I needed to reset XBOX way too many times for my taste. For me, a game needs to be flawless. What I like a lot is that it is not difficult to defeat enemies which makes the game very enjoyable. Another thing, you cannot adjust the level of difficulty for the game.

Characters/World: Your character will get older with time. You can even affect your weight and shape depending what you eat and how you train for fighting. Hairstyles, tatoos, clothing and dyes are very fun to use. Albion, the world you live in, is absolutely amazing. You can walk around, dive from a high cliff, swim, explore endlessly. You can also get married, have a kid, work, buy property if you want to get rich fast. It is a very beautiful game.
Fighting scenes are awesome. The movements of your character are absolutely stunning especially when camera zooms to a slow-motion K.O of the enemy or when you use a special move or a spell.

First game in the series, Fable: The Lost Chapters, is an amazing work of art. Fable II is a the same level and if some people were dissapointed it was probably because the creators did not raise the bar higher from the previous game. I still find that Fable series are one of a kind and no game can really match its beauty, at least not yet.
