A rare case in which a band actually gets better with time, this California hard rock quintet seems to have finally grown into its skin on its fifth album. Casting off the dated slap-bass funk and pointless nu-metal angst of its early years (well, mostly), Light Grenades is not only a worthwhile follow-up to 2003's A Crow Left of the Murder--the expansive disc many fans consider Incubus's best--but shows improvements all around. Singer Brandon Boyd has learned to temper the words he plucks out of the thesaurus with genuine heartbreak, while the rest of the group proves it can do a lot more than offer up nonstop grooves. --Aidin Vaziri

I loved this album; I don't know if it's my favourite Incubus CD, but it is pretty high up there. Fans of early funk-rock Incubus stuff might find it too mellow, but I think that their sound had a very nice and interesting evolution with time. There is still plenty of experimentation and weirdness that made their early work unique, but it has a different tone. Some people say that Incubus sold out to be more mainstream, but I completely disagree. I actually think they are among the few bands out there who just do what they love and try to be the best at it as they can, and "Light Grenades" is a fine example of that. As usual, the lyrics are amazing and rich and the guitar is just awesome. If you can, check out the acoustic versions for "Anna Molly" (only available on the iTunes store, I'm afraid) and "Love Hurts" (that one is one the "Anna Molly" single CD... Go figure...). Very highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this album, and I have no specific criticisms, except that doesn't the introduction of Quicksand sound a lot like Radiohead's Everything in it's Right Place? Just a thought. Otherwise, awesome listen!

Yes, my favourite album is still Morning View but this is still a very good piece of art. As some previous reviewers said, you'll find yourself wanting to hear the album again and again. All musicians bring the best out of his instrument(s). The guitar is discretly leading the way, the bass is so groovy, drums are tight and Brandon's voice is perfect. And a very special mention to Dj Kilmore, going much further than simple vinyl scratching, incorporating instruments as weird as a mellotron and theramin. The only out of place song could be the title track, which is really like a grenade between two softer songs. Lets hope Incubus stick around for many years to bring us many quality albums such as this one.
