Album Description

Australian pressing of the 2008 sophomore album from The Raconteurs, who have had to change their name Down Under for legal reasons. The album features 14 songs, including first single 'Salute Your Solution'. While its predecessor was recorded on the band's own equipment in their homes, Consolers Of The Lonely gave them one of their first "big" studio experiences. The album was recorded at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, TN. The creative spark for the record was ignited during the time the band spent touring in 2006. Songwriters Brendan Benson and Jack White utilized their time on the road wisely, using sound checks and live shows as a chance to experiment and elaborate on their sound. Warner.

This is a party in a box, brash, exuberant, tender, brooding, with ragged guitars, visceral percussion, cool lyrics and piercing vocals which assume every posture in the manual of rock. I loved this cd. I love the Raconteurs.

Like Bowie in the 70's, Prince in the 80's, Bono in the 90's, the music world now has its newest Midas-touch player and producer, and he is Michigan's (now Nashville's) Jack White. Jack can do no wrong (except maybe trapsing down the most incongruous of paths, resulting in a James Bond theme song with Alicia Keyes-- not that the latter isn't deserving of her own merit...but the song, the "cause", ugh). This c.d., the second by his "side group" the Raconteurs, might seem deceivingly straightforward, something to put on in the background of a pre-sports game event, or whatever, and for this it WOULD work; but listen more closely and you hear the inventiveness, even eccentricity (I use this word with RESPECT) of Jack (and co.'s) input on what might otherwise seem like an, uhm, album of STRAIGHTFORWARD pop-rock... As the philosophers say, there is great profundity in expressing simple wisdom...(fill in the other half of the analogy after listening to "Consolers of the Lonely"). Great stuff.
