She captured the hearts of millions and became a worldwide YouTube phenomenon with over 300 million hits. An inspiration for those who have a dream, the talented Susan Boyle presents her stunning debut album.

Susan surprised the world with her powerful, heart-stopping voice when she walked onto the Britain’s Got Talent stage. Now with a beautiful and diverse album she will, once again, defy preconceptions.

I Dreamed a Dream, the album, crafted by world acclaimed producer Steve Mac, demonstrates Susan Boyle's extensive musical ability. Featuring her signature songs "I Dreamed a Dream" & "Cry me a River,"the album also includes a haunting rendition of Rolling Stones "Wild Horses," Madonna's "You’ll See," The Monkees "Daydream Believer" and "Who I Was Born To Be," an original recording written specially for Susan.

Susan enthused; "It was my greatest ambition to release an album and I have finally achieved it. This amazing journey has helped me find my own identity and fulfil my wish. There is happiness out there for everyone who dares to dream."

3.0 out of 5 stars EXTRAORDINARY VOICE - SONG CHOICES SKETCHY, Nov 26 2009

This review is from: I Dreamed a Dream (Audio CD)
I was one of the millions who was entranced by Susan Boyle. I loved her beautiful voice and simplistic style of delivery so absent from the world of music today. Susan is a welcome change and somewhat of a throwback to earlier days when artists actually COULD sing without the bells, whistles and studio tricks. Her basic approach to singing and songs reminded me of the beautiful style of Nana Mouskouri, a not so well known but hugely successful singer who has sold more records than any other female singer in the world on the basis of her unique and beautiful voice and singing style. As Nana has retired and as that type of singer has disappeared from popular entertainment I think that Susan will take up that mantle and become much loved by the same audience as was Nana. Okay so maybe not chart topping but filling concert stages the world over at her whim. For this Im greatful. But I think that her albums need to be planned a bit more carefully. There are stunning and bone chilling performances here such as Wild Horses, I Dreamed a Dream, You'll See and Who I was Born to be. But there are also lapses such as Silent Night, How Great Thou Art and Amazing Grace which do not match the other material. As well they are strangely arranged and oddly dont even include all the lyrics; and, while Susans voice is great on them, they sound more like demos whichd belong on a different type of album. Im surprized that no one at Sony thought about this and advised the producers to reconsider the final track run down. Nonetheless, her voice is stunning and she has clearly learned a great deal about the dramatics of delivery. With the right material and with a few more years of experience she will become a great singer and performer and will have the abilty to entrance. Im looking forward to her next record and her first tour. Buy this!

3.0 out of 5 stars Susan Boyle ~ Her First CD ~ A Dream or A Nightmare?, Nov 30 2009
By Frederic White "FredEric White" (Montreal, QC.) - See all my reviews

This review is from: I Dreamed a Dream (Audio CD)
Susan Boyle is definitely one of the most intriguing personalities of 2009.

Her natural self effacing demeanour hit a positive chord with the public at large. However this is not about personality but quality of a product released to launch the potential career of an aspiring new artist emerging onto the music scene.

As much as I do applaud the genuine simplicity of her troubled persona, I do not believe this product deserves the hype presently bestowed upon it by the press and media.

The fault lay directly with the production and track listing.

Certain songs perfectly suit Boyle such the remake of the Stones "Wild Horses" while other tracks awkwardly misguide her artistry and make her sound as a featured vocalist on the Lawrence Welk Hour ~ such as the case with the sedated rendition of The Monkees' "Daydream Believer".

The general production on this CD is cautiously mellow and Celtic, however, due to a lack in musical direction on the part of the producer, the CD has no tangible musical message.

Die hard fans of Boyle will disagree and most likely appreciate her first venture into the music world yet the musical elite will fault this CD with being but another showcase for a "reality television" personality and not a true introduction for a potential artist.

The odd and over extended collection of songs appearing on this project (church hymn to seasonal song) provide listeners with the question;

Has this product been rushed rapidly to retail by a greedy producer (Simon Cowell) thus once again taking full advantage of a kind lady who dreams a dream?
