5.0 étoiles sur 5 Clever, touching, even better than the first ..., Nov. 27 2011
Scott Lynch is a genius... I have converted non fantasy fans to fantasy fans by giving them these 2 books. The second one is even better than the first, it explores the friendship between Jean and Locke even more deeply and it even more clever than the first one. The cliffhanger ending will have you salivating for the next book. This book is so good my life will not be complete until I read the next instalment. What more can I say? If you like fantasy, buy it. If you don't like fantasy, buy it. If you don't like reading books at all, what the heck are you doing reading this review anyway?

5.0 étoiles sur 5 awesome, very enjoyable, Nov. 19 2011
This review is from: Wasp (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is a classic, quite old but an exciting well told story never goes out of style. This is dubbed science fiction but it does not resemble most science fiction, just a good general suspense/ spy story. Mostly reality based, not weirdness. Anyone would like this. Ignore the cover art, it has nothing at all to do with the book.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Makes you feel better about your own life., Nov. 13 2011
This book makes you feel better about your own life in 3 important ways. 1) you do not make such poor choices concerning men and relationships. 2) You are not such a total slacker at your job (not being a call girl, the office job). 3) You will probably never (unless you are very unlucky) find yourself in bed with the type of sicko/weirdo that this poor lady deals with on a regular basis. So read it! Feel great!! Other than that, not really much here sorry to say.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 a few pearls of wisdom, nothing spectacular, Nov. 13 2011
I hate to be negative but this book is mostly about common sense, not spying. This book would be suitable for young children, or anyone who is socially awkward and does not really know how to successfully interact with others. It teaches basic social skills, the kind of thing in "How to win friends and influence people." Great read if you don't know these points already, or if you know someone who needs work on their social skills, give them this book. It will not look like you are giving them a self help book, but you are. There are a few pearls of wisdom, like how to use memory tricks to improve your recall; good advice especially if you have trouble remembering names. Other than that, this book does not go into enough specific details to point out anything beyond general knowledge or common sense. A great reminder was to email a scan of your passport to yourself when traveling - a great reminder but not worth buying + reading the book for that!!

Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Very Clever and Funny!!, Sept. 6 2011
I read that in this book Thidwick almost starves to death - not true, he misses maybe one meal - don't worry, there are no grotesque pictures of him with his ribs sticking out or anything. I was afraid to order it for that reason but I am glad I did!! ****SPOILER ALERT ***** The ending is VERY CLEVER with hunters coming after Thidwick to "Get his head for the harvard club wall" - obviously this book was written some time ago when authors and parents thought kids could handle having the main character shot at. I actually have no problem at all with this book and I recommend it fully but I just thought those who are a little more sensitive would appreciate knowing this. As well, at the end, all the animals who took advantage of Thidwick's generosity and conspired to keep him from reaching the "far distant side of the lake" where the moose moss grows end up dead and stuffed on the same wall. If you think your child is particularly sensitive, maybe pass on this. However, I like the book, my kid loves it, and it has a powerful lesson worth sharing with kids.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 This book is big and beautiful!!, April 5 2011
I am so glad this book was re-issued! It basically has a moral of facing your troubles head on and not being just ordered about by others and taken advantage of. As far as the story goes there are probably others who could write about it better than me, but this book is about 1.5 times as big as the regular sized seuss hardcovers, and the illustrations are bright and beautiful! It is a great story in a collectors quality package, definite buy!!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 laugh out loud, deliciously sexy..., Feb. 22 2011
This review is from: My Uncle Oswald (Paperback)
This book is sexy but not pornographic, an adult book which is clever, funny and ironic. If you liked any of RD's children's books and you are an adult now, who possesses a raunchy sense of humour and an appreciation of subtlety, you will LOVE this book.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Delicious, Feb. 22 2011
I read these stories all in one night, they are superb. They are appropriate as far as content for teen readers (no explicit sex etc.) but they are written for adults and I think it would take an adult perspective to fully appreciate them.

Lies of Locke Lamora
Lies of Locke Lamora

5.0 étoiles sur 5 one of the best fantasy books ever!!!, Jan. 24 2011
This review is from: Lies of Locke Lamora (Paperback)
Scott Lynch, and therefore his characters, are extremely clever. His plot is intricate but not needlessly difficult to follow or convoluted. This book will appeal to fans of Harry Dresden (Jim Butcher), it is fast paced, has violent action and fighting, but is not gory or sadistic, and the characters are interesting and loveable. This book does not try to make some grand message about life or humanity, which I think has been done to death and I am not a fan of. It is just an action packed, fast paced roller coaster thrill ride, I cannot wait to read the next 3 in the series.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Super awesome for french learners !!, Dec 18 2010
The reading is exactly the same as the french book, so you can follow the book and listen to the pronunciation of the words. It does go pretty fast at parts, but thats good practice and there is plenty of slower reading. The reader does different voices for all the characters and some of them are pretty amusing! It even comes with a small glossary - it is useful too because there is no real translation for words like "squib" so you don't get lost trying to look them up in the dictionary.
