Very Cool..., July 14 2004
I've been a Rush fan for a long time. I have many of their CD's, yet this is the first which I actually enjoy listening to all of the tracks. In my opinion they do a far better job than the original artists did with these songs. I'd rather hear Geddy's razor sharp bass lines than the muddy thumping that was on the original versions. I also think he did an admirable job on the vocals. The production is right where it should be for these tunes--raw and full of energy. I saw Rush in concert a few weeks ago and they did a couple of these songs--I went right out and found the CD... BTW, the concert was one of the best I've seen (and I've been to a lot of them). As for the whining in earlier reveiws about the covers, the production, the lack of talent, blablabla... why did you buy it in the first place? Seems silly to me. After 30 years, you should know what Rush sounds like... put the crack pipe down PLEASE.

Very good..., May 4 2004
This book is great in that it has plenty of exercises after the concepts are explained--and if you want to learn AND REMEMBER a new language, repetition (and use) is really the only way. It explains all of the important grammar concepts (and hang-ups for english speakers) with clarity. Of course, it's presented almost entirely in spanish, so you need to understand a good amount of Spanish to get anything out of it. This is my favorite Spanish Language book (and most of them that I own are very good).

Good, but could be better..., Dec 1 2003
In one of the other reviews above, someone commented on the over repeating of words--if you are like me, you need exactly that. I really liked the constant reviewing of words in this course. Many courses introduce a word and then it's never seen or heard again--that's silly. Using that method, you will remember that word for all of 10 seconds. You've got to keep using the word to remember it--these CD's do a nice job of that. Overall, I liked the course. My complaints are: There really should be, at least an optional written manual. Seems kind of silly to ignore the written Irish language--it puts you at quite a disadvantage when you want to "see" what you've learned. The other complaint is that it is too short and brief--what's there is great, but it would be nice to continue with about 30 more CD's! I've noticed the dialect differences with other courses, mentioned by some of the other reviewers. I find the dialect on these CD's to be very pleasant (pretty) compared to that spoken on the other courses. I wish they were all in this dialect! Overall, I think these CD's are worth the nominal cost. They are nice to pop in every once in a while after going through them, just for review.

Prog Metal? Heavy on the metal, light on the progress..., Nov 12 2003
When I listen to DT's previous releases, it does something for me. There is always a brilliant instrumental or compositional surprise ready to jump out. There is always a skillfully written ballad or a mindboggling rocker. The time and energy that went into these compositions shows. The sequence of compositional changes always keep the listener riveted, interested and anticipating "what's going to happen next." It's adventurous--the music goes somewhere and it tells a 'story' of sorts. Well, and then there is this new CD. I can't really say it is horrible. But, most of the songs don't go anywhere. It sounds a lot like early Metallica at times--except there is no 'freshness' to it as there was with Metallica 20 years ago. The musicianship isn't bad, but not even close to previous DT material. It's too sub-sonic and growly. Seems very heavy on the de-tuned rumble metal riffs and very light on the compositional end of things. They are beginning to sound like the other 10,000 rumble metal bands out there. The sad thing is... they are better than that! It seems to me that they are caving in to the latest "fad" in rock and metal music (tuned down, indestinguishable rumbling). James doesn't even sing that much--more like growls--just like all the other rumble metal bands. Rap... come on! sinking to new lows! Sorry! I'm a fan of DT, but not a fan of this CD... If you're into DT for the 'progressive' side of them, skip this one! If you want to hear Linkin Park meets Metallica, you'll be thrilled...

Well..., Nov 11 2003
It's OK, I suppose... but if you are a fan of the "progressive" side of DT, it ain't really happening. In my opinion, it's a little heavy on the de-tuned rumble metal side and a little light on the progressive side. Reminds me of early metallica at times. It does have it moments, but there is nothing here that comes close to the wonderful variety of the last release (or any earlier). There are no hooking melodies to draw my interest. I will grant that the percussion end of things (Mike Portnoy) is kicking tail... but overall, probably my least favorite DT album... sorry.
