5.0 étoiles sur 5 Lessons from the respected uncle we all wished we had, March 22 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
"Who Owns the Ice House?" is much more than a book on entrepreneurship. It is a book about how the mindset and actions of the good & reliable stands out from the average. It is a series of stories that reflect the good old values of how one carries oneself in life.

The wise way to approach life is not bound by time, location or circumstance. These ways are common among respected people in all walks of life. What authors did was a great job in organizing these them in easy-to-absorb stories that we can all incorporate into our own lives.

Reading this book is like living out the internship with the successful and respected uncle we all wished we had. I am ordering extra copies for my dearest family & friends, and keeping copies for future generations. This one's a classic.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Widening a sports fan's perspective, July 13 2010
This book did a very good job laying down the line on what is at stake in sports, why certain teams are "more likely" to win, and an insider's view on a lot of wink winks in the industry.

As a die-hard sports fan, have you wondered why a sure-winner team can't even make a routine pass correctly in that big game, or why sometimes players say something that doesn't sound right? This book answers a lot about what's behind the scenes, and most importantly, the dark side of what moves professional sports.

If you think professional sports is about fair play, think again .. or read this book.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Warren Buffett in a nutshell, Feb. 2 2009
This book is a collection of compiled Warren Buffett quotes (up to publishing time), with a few short pieces to briefly summarize who Warren Buffett is.

While many can blow through this book quickly or easily find an internet alternative, the book's true value is in spending time at a setting of comfort to understand what Buffett was really trying to communicate. Having first read this book nearly 10 years ago, I still go back to it from time to time and use his values as the backbone to shape my principles in life.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A walk through Stelco's rough road, April 26 2008
Pratt and Gaudet teamed up to give us an insider's revisit to Stelco's days in bankruptcy protection. Pratt did not run the show, but merely the key person to pull all the self-interested folks together to make sure the show happens.

Reading this book brought out both my anger and acceptance of reality. There will be games played against you, more so if you play the good guy. And there will be the challenge of working through a difficult system that's quite forgiving already.

And through all the thick and thin, we have the guy who looks after the people behind the numbers ... even after the marathon had restarted each time you thought you passed the finish line.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Story of the little motorcycle company that can, Jan. 1 2008
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Honda Motor Company is about a post-world war small motorcycle shop that demonstrated entrepreneurship and balanced technology and business management to advance. Going deep in describing the company's practices and the technology and management behind the company, Sato described how this company became what it is, and what prohibited the company from advanced even further. I would say that I learned more about business from this book than from some college courses.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A book of business intangibles, Oct. 3 2006
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a book full of short stories of business intangibles.

Some of the items may be obvious to the intelligent readers. But each time I read this book, there will be something I didn't know or have overlooked in my daily life that comes back to me.

And who know's, maybe the small stuff does make a difference in your life.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A journey of life, April 18 2002
This is absolutely a journey that consumes a tremendous amount of energy and a high level of thinking.
Other critics are very correct that the Fountainhead does have an ideology that may not be suitable for everybody. The key to reading any book is to read between the lines and filter the author's own ideology, and then learn the important lessons that can be learned from the book.
This book covers many areas in life that I was previously sub-par without understanding what caused it. Extracting one of the things said in the book:
¡§Most people go to very great length in order to convince themselves of their self-respect.¡
¡§Yes.¡
¡§And, of course, a quest for self-respect is proof of its lack.¡
In my opinion, this book is for those who have reached a certain level of maturity in mind to think deeply for himself (or herself). The lessons from this book would be significantly less worthy otherwise. For those in the 'other' category, it is likely preferable to learn from other sources and coming back a little later.
