5.0 étoiles sur 5 Thank-you for visiting once again., Sept. 24 2014
This review is from: Popular Problems (Audio CD)
Slow. Bluesy. Like assuming the warmth of an old cloak of familiarity. Lyrics as only Leonard can pen them. That rich strong voice and harmonies. Amazing.

I too always liked it slow, I never liked it fast. Thank-you for visiting once again. The door will always be open.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Purest Rhinegold, Feb. 28 2012
Nothing new here. Just that thrilling voice superbly backed and recorded with shattering clarity. This group of favourites from Loreena's repertoire have never sounded better. Exquisite beauty. Purest Rhinegold.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Show Me The Way, Feb. 3 2012
This review is from: Old Ideas (Audio CD)
Let it be clearly understood that I like everything Leonard. The man is a national treasure. Be that as it may, it was with curiosity that I approached yet another album by this most gentle of seniors.

"Old Ideas" is, in a word, superb. The wisdom of the man is distilled to the simplest of understated melodies, the gravel of the voice trailing smoke through the soul of eternity. This is not the album of yet another aging singer from the Sixties. It is the album of a man just now reaching the pinnacle of refinement.

Granted, Leonard may not be to everyone's tastes, but, to anyone who seeks understanding, this album is not an epilogue. It is essential.

"Show me the place where you want your slave to go." Show me indeed.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Gift of Peace, Nov. 19 2010
This review is from: The Gift (Audio CD)
On first listening I was not sure just what to think of this album. As dusk falls this bitterly cold evening and the snow sifts gently down, I know that I will be listening to "The Gift" this Christmas Eve around midnight as peace settles in. It is a very quiet album, exquisitely so. Yes, it echoes, vibrates through the great unknown quietude. The clarity of that voice is beyond reproach.

"The Gift" is truly a gift of love and peace.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Simply The Coolest Sound Around, Oct. 11 2010
This review is from: Band Of Joy (Audio CD)
Be the song traditional or be it modern, Band of Joy is a purely contemporary fusion of sound. In short, it is simply the coolest sound around.

In places so cool that it provides chills, Robert Plant builds on the roots sound of Raising Sand with an album that further blends modern day musical genres into just plain good music. Whether it is a wall of sound like the superb Monkey, an infectious rhythm like Angel Dance, or the balladic Falling in Love Again, there is something here that should appeal to just about everyone, and every song is listenable.

Way cool.

Thank-you Robert Plant and Buddy Miller.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, Nov. 2 2008
O Come O Come Emmanuel. What an overwhelming tapestry of sound. The lovely rich combination of Loreena's voice accompanied by Caroline Lavelle on cello and Hugh Marsh's violin has never been more powerful. Over the years Loreena McKennitt has assembled an outstanding group of back-up musicians and they are at their best here. For several years now the Abdelli version of God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen has been a Christmas favourite of mine. Yes, it is repeated here, along with several others, all of them worthy, but there are also many gorgeous new recordings. I just have to tear myself away from Emmanuel long enough to appreciate the others. Believe me, it is not easy.
