4.0 étoiles sur 5 Reveiw of remastered CD/ Blu ray set (2015), July 29 2015

Excellent album by Mr. Waters. Defiantly his best solo work outside of the "When The Wind Blows" soundtrack. The 5.1 mix on the Blu ray is outstanding be it only in PCM not DTS-HD or Dolby True HD. I had not heard this album in years and forgot how good it was but the 5.1 mix brings you into the music in a whole new way. I would rank this as one of the best 5.1 Blu rays out there and the price is incredible. $18.99 for the CD/ Blu ray is a steal. Now we have a new David Gilmour album coming out in 5.1 in September, fantastic. Now if they would only put out Meddle and The Wall in 5.1 we would be getting somewhere and let's be honest Pink Floyd music solo or as a band is made for the 5.1 experience.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Excellent Album, Best They Could Do SACD, July 26 2015
This review is from: Blind Faith: Limited (Audio CD)
This album has been in my collection for years. I still have the deluxe version with all the extra tracks. Unfortunately that version has a lot of distortion on it so I figured I would bite the bullet and buy the SACD. Well it does sound a lot better then the current CD issue but some distortion is from the way it was recorded so some is stil there. This has a very full sound. The bass and drums are much warmer then the CD. Vocals are nice and clear. Can hear some cow bell I never heard before so the separation between instruments is good. I guess the only reason I am only giving this four stars is because other records of that era were recorded much better and you would think with a super group like this they could have taken a bit of time and done a better job. After all is said and done great SACD but bad recording. However you do get 6 killer songs!!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 3 1/2 Star for Stones on a Off Day, July 24 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
3 1/2 stars! This is not the stones at their best. After watching this I can see why it has not been around in years. Filmed three days after Brian Jones death the Stones are just not firing on all cylinders. There is also quit a bit of destortion. Typical for a show filmed at this time (1969). The print is also a little bleched looking. As a artifact of the Stones it's a must have. However, as part of the "Live At The Vault" series I would say this is the weakest to date. Historically it's very important, three days after Jones death (as mentioned), first show with Mick Taylor to name just a couple. There is also a lot of talking it's not just a straight concert video.
Very glad to finally have a copy of this region coded for Canada ( I had an Australian copy until now). If you want live hey day stones grab "Ladies And Gentleman The Rolling Stones" or if you like more of a documentary get "Gimme Shelter" both of those are with Mick Taylor.
They have released quit a few of these in the last few months I just hope there are more to come.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Excellent CD's But Cheap Packaging, July 18 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Finally it's out! There was a 2 LP set of highlights that came out on Record Store day but now we get the full four sets. The sound on these CD's is excellent (some distortion but nothing horrible and mostly on vocals. But this is on par with other live recordings of the time) Much superior to the live Woodstock CD put out a couple of years ago. Even tho there are four sets from over two days the shows are not identical to each other. The mix is about as good as you get and it's not overly compressed which is nice in this day and age.
The packaging is pretty cheap with it just being a fold out cardboard sleeve with a cd in each section. There is also a booklet that is mostly pictures with very little in the way of liner notes. It also has technical notes (who recorded it, producer, etc.).
Cheap packaging aside the music is second to none. I can't believe they have these tapes for forty plus years and just got around to releasing them now. Oh well better late then never!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great Yes Live Rarities Set! (3 CD Box Set), July 16 2015

This review is from: The Word Is Live (Audio CD)
What's with all the negative reviews? Due to reading so many bad reviews I put off buying this. With the passing of Chris Squire it has put me in a major Yes mood so I took a shot. This set is excellents! It has live versions of songs that have never had a live release before. The highlight for me being "Sound Chaser" a very overlooked Yes gem. It comes in a hard book styled case and has very well done liner notes.
If you are just checking Yes out don't start here. This is more a collection for die hard fans. To see the big picture I would suggest the 2 CD YesYears Highlights compilation or better yet the full YesYears 4 CD box set (if you can find it). If you want live Yes the strongest live album are Yessongs and Yesshows. Yessongs being the stronger of the two. There is also Progeny that comes as a 2 CD and 14 CD set. However Yessongs gives you a larger song selection.

I have to be honest I really don't know a lot of Aretha Franklin's but this had enough great songs to give it a go. What an amazingly solid record. I know it's a best of... but there were no filler tracks to pad out the running time. This SACD makes me want to check out some more of her music.
The mastering on the SACD is excellent. I know it's expensive but you will notice where your money went. Easily one of MoFi's best SACD releases to date.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 80's Who Could Still Rock!!, July 15 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I did not know if I would like this Kenny Jones is a great drummer but not really a good fit for the Who. Plus there are a lot of songs from the post Moon records. Well my fears were not warranted this is an excellent show. Even with the bad 80's clothes and haircuts the Who still rocks. This is a Standard Definition Blu ray so you get the black bars down the sides but the picture is super sharp. There is a little flair at times but nothing that will wreck your viewing pleasure. The highlite for me is a then new song "Eminence Front" this is a song that is getting a bit of a rebirth right now due to it's use in a car ad. Plus it's, in my opinion, the last classic Who song. The show runs over two hours plus there are bonus tracks. If you are a who fan you should like this. The 5.1 mix is great and the HD audio has a real punch to it. Now I wish they would put out a fixed up version of the Toronto Farewell show (yea I know they got back together but it was a farewell show at the time).

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Yes's Last Great Record No Matter What Name It Goes By!, July 15 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is an excellent Yes record in everything but name. Yes it is missing the late Chris Squire but it does have Tony Levin who is a bass god himself. This is the strongest Yes related album since 90125 and it's in the style of classic Yes. Every song is not a gem but nothing sucks either. It's miles better then Talk or the horrible Union record. This remaster has great sound and the bonus disc has some great material on it. Starting off with a Rick Wakeman interview talking about how they reformed and ending off with a live version of "And You And I" and the then new track "Order Of The Universe".
This CD is a must for any Yes completest and it will probably get lots of plays. I dare to say it's the closest thing to Yes's last Masterpeice!

This was the first Yes tour I saw and it was excellent. This record (CD now) came out in the mid 80's to capitalize on Yes's resurgence since the release of 90125. When I first bought it I did not know if I would like it not being a fan of live solos to begin with (when I started going to concerts every band had Guitar, Drums or Key board solos and sometimes even the dreaded Bass Solo) but this record was different the Solo's were more like little songs not just people trying to play fast to impress the crowd. The Late Chris Squire solo is a highlight especially when him and drummer Alan White break into Whitefish. There are two live songs (Hold On, Changes) and this version comes with two bonus tracks. The very overlooked City Of Love and It Can Happen (all the songs were originally from 90125).
This is a worthy addition to any Yes collection !

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Excellent Remaster (SACD / CD Hybrid release)!, June 26 2015

What a difference good mastering makes! This, along with the rest of the Doobie's catologe, really needed remastered. Up to now the only domestic version of this album was the original CD release from 25 plus years ago so you can imagine the sound quality. Now we get this beautiful sounding SACD and the best thing is it's a hybrid so you can play it on a regular CD player ( be it not be in SACD. That you still need to by an SACD player for) so anyone with a CD player will be able to enjoy the excellent mastering job. The best thing about Mobile Fedelity's SACD's and CD's is they don't suffer from the loudness wars. This along with their other releases have excellent dynamic range to them.
The album it's self is pretty solid but it does not really have a hit single on it. "Take Me In Your Arms" is on this disc but unless your a Doobie's fan you probably will not know the song (at least in the Toronto area because I never hear it on local radio stations). This is pre their AM gold period so it's a rocking album. This might not be the album to start with but it's a great one to have!
