4.0 étoiles sur 5 Excellent Remaster (SACD / CD Hybrid release)!, June 26 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Stampede (Audio CD)
What a difference good mastering makes! This, along with the rest of the Doobie's catologe, really needed remastered. Up to now the only domestic version of this album was the original CD release from 25 plus years ago so you can imagine the sound quality. Now we get this beautiful sounding SACD and the best thing is it's a hybrid so you can play it on a regular CD player ( be it not be in SACD. That you still need to by an SACD player for) so anyone with a CD player will be able to enjoy the excellent mastering job. The best thing about Mobile Fedelity's SACD's and CD's is they don't suffer from the loudness wars. This along with their other releases have excellent dynamic range to them.
The album it's self is pretty solid but it does not really have a hit single on it. "Take Me In Your Arms" is on this disc but unless your a Doobie's fan you probably will not know the song (at least in the Toronto area because I never hear it on local radio stations). This is pre their AM gold period so it's a rocking album. This might not be the album to start with but it's a great one to have!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The Sound Is Just Awesome !, June 25 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I got into Porcupine Tree a little late so I missed this DVD-Audio the first time around. Man am I glad someone got around to rereleasing it the sound is just stunning. Out of all Mr. Wilson's 5.1 output this is one of his best. As far as the quality of music this would rank near the top of the P.T. Pile. I would rank it third behind "Fear Of A Blank Planet" and "Stupid Dream" but I am sure there are lots of P.T. Fans that would disagree with me. As for the price? I paid half of what Amazon.ca is asking and bought them off a Japanese seller. The product arrived within two weeks and in perfect shape. I ordered "Deadwing" off a US seller and the product arrived a few days later. But saving $80 between the two titles made the two week wait worth it.
This does come with the CD as well and in this case HQCD another version of CD's from Japan. Like Shm-CD's I don't know if the formate improves the sound. They sound great but I always find the mastering sounds better on Japanese issued CD's. At first I thought it was in my head but if you do an A B test I find the Japanese versions always came out on top.
No matter what version you buy this is a great album to add to any collection!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Great Video and Audio! But it only 38 minutes long., June 24 2015
Excellent Blu ray! I have a bootleg of this show, actually a very good one and the improvements made here are stunning. The only reason I am giving this four stars is due to it's running time. The main feature only runs just under 40 minutes. There is bonus material of a couple of alternate takes but on the up side all tracks are in 5.1 (except for Top Of The Pops performance that is stereo only). They did an amazing job with the audio and video restoration. Even tho it is shot on video from 1971 the images are clear and sharp but it does have black bars down the side due to it being shot for TV. If you like the Stones this is a worthy addition to any collection.
On a side note once again I booked this item literally the day it was listed yet I did not get the product. However my local record store had it. Come on .ca this is getting beyond irritating.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Ornette Coleman Is Not For Everybody But If You Like Him Buy This Boxset !, June 17 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
What a talent! This box set is Brillant from beginning to end. I first was introduced to Ornette Coleman about 15 years ago. Have three of his album on CD and a DVD so I am not a diehard fan but this box set makes me want to check out more. The set it's self has amazing sound and great liner notes but the new versions packing is not as nice. This has the 6 CD's in cardboard sleeves along with a booklet of liner notes in a clamshell box. The old version had the same liner notes but it came like a book (be it CD size) with individual holders for the individual CD's and the liner notes together and bound to the spine of the book. However this version is cheaper and is made very well. Unless you crush the box it should hold up for years.
As for the music it seems to divide jazz fans. Some say it's juvenile where others say he's a genius. If you are new to jazz and want some CD's to listen to start with Miles Davis's "Kind Of Blue" or "Sketches Of Spain" or maybe John Coltrane's "Blue Train" they are little easier to digest but if you like Jazz and already have some CD's but want to check Ornette Coleman out this is a great place to start.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Marvin Gaye's Crowning Achievement ! (Blu Ray Pure Audio Release), June 17 2015
This review is from: What's Going on (Blu-ray Audio)
What can I say this is a perfect album. I am not religious but still find this album soothing. Again I have owned this album in so many versions I lost count and I thought they couldn't top the SACD but I was wrong. The Blu ray pure audio of this classic is stunning. Unfortunately only in stereo but great. The only reason for the four star Reveiw is there is an audio issue with the DTS-HD track. It sounds really echoey but the PCM and Dolby Digital True HD tracks sound wonderful. This, in my opinion, is easily one of the top ten records ever made. It really is Marvin Gaye's crowning achievement and it can make a crap day a little better. Even if you don't buy the Blu ray pick this album up. I have never met anyone who didn't like it!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Coltrane Blu ray Audio A Worthy Addition To Any Collection!, June 15 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Excellent live show from 1960 with guest Oscar Peterson is great addition to anyone who loves jazz music collection. With a running time of around 40 minutes it's a little on the short side but the recording sounds good. A little echoy but still good. but miles better then I feared. As I mentioned in my Oscar Peterson Reveiw releases like this (on DVD Audio) were a crapshoot. A lot were basically bootlegs being passed off as high end audio only to get them home and discover how bad they were. This Blu ray is not like that at all. Professionally recorded and beautifully mixed. I am very glad I took the chance and bought it. Think I will listen to it again!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 5 Star Record With Three Star Sound, June 10 2015
This review is from: Funkadelic (Audio CD)
First off this is a five star record! But the recording (engineering) on it leaves a lot to be desired. The amount of distortion thru out the CD makes it hard to listen to. Unfortunately this is not a mastering issue but the way it was recorded. This was recorded for inde label in the early 70's by people who had never worked in a studio or else had very little experience. The music is excellent as are the performances it just sucks it was not recorded better.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Miles In The Early Days (Blu ray Pure Audio Reveiw), June 9 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a great collection of Miles Davis's work while at Bue Note. Excellent collection all on one Blu ray and the Audio is great. However this is from a period in Miles life that he was battling heroin. He still sounds great but not to the standered he set for himself while with Columbia Records a few years later. I love that this made it to Blu ray pure audio and hopefully a lot more Jazz will see the light of day on this new format. As for this collection, if you have a Blu ray player hooked up to home entertainment system and like Jazz this is for you!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Excellent Live 5.0 Blu Ray Pure Audio!, June 9 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Even thow we lived in the same city (Mississauga) this is my first Oscar Peterson album. I have to be honest I was not sure if this would be any good? Not the music but the product. When music started coming out on DVD there were a lot of indi companies that put out horrible sounding live DVD's and I was afraid the same thing might happen with these Blu ray releases. Well I had nothing to fear the sound on this is as good as any live album out there. The only downside is there some one talking along with the music in the same way that Monk use to grunt and make noises when he played. I don't think it's Oscar making the noises but someone defiantly is. It's quite in the mix and does not reck the experience plus it's not on every track.
The performance it's self is excellent. The band is tight and the songs are great so that along with the great recording, mixing and mastering makes this an excellent purchase. I ordered the John Coltrane live Blu ray audio as well but have not received it as of yet. I just hope it's as good as this! Oh yea I forgot to mention it's running time is just over an hour.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Marvin's second Classic Record Get's the 5.1 Treatment (Blu Ray Pure Audio Review), June 9 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is one of the best 5.1 Blu ray Audio's so far. First off this record is a classic second only to "What's Going On". The bass sound is stunning! Beautiful 5.1 mix! The sound on this surpasses the 5.1 SACD for sound quality. If you look at my reviews you will see I am a huge fan of the Blu Ray Pure Audio format and this just reinforces my faith in it. Again, If you have a Blu ray player hooked up to a home theater system I really suggest you check this out!
