I paid a small fortune for this DVD. I was given the Black Sword and Live album from the tour for Christmas and loved them. So I found a used copy of the DVD and was really pumped to see it. Well this is one DVD that needed remastering bad. The film is very dark and the audio is louder in the right channel then left. Basically it looks and sounds like a pirated release.
It's a great show be it 45 minutes shorter then the live album and the band is on fire but you might want to wait for a rerelease. The $65 I paid for mine was too much.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 One Of The Best Films You Have Never Seen!, Feb. 16 2015
Achat vérifié(Quest-ce que cest?)
This movie was released twice in the theater and both times it flopped. That being said this is a hidden gem. The writing, acting and directing are second to none and add a five star script and you get this masterpiece.
The story takes place in an old castle that has been donated to the US army to be used for soldiers that have had breaks with reality. One day a new shrink shows up (start of film) and there is much more to this character then meets the eye. That is all I will say because it would wreak the story for you.
So why only four stars? The Blu ray is not the best (to be fair the DVD did not look that great ether) but it still looks good. The draw back are shots in the rain. It also only has a double mono soundtrack. These draw backs will not effect the story or your enjoyment of the film.
This is a dialog film so not good for movie nights with talkative friends but it is the dialog that makes the film. There are some very funny conversations throughout the film and a lot of them are in the background so you really have to listen.
This film was done by the same person that directed the Exorcist so if you have seen that film you kind of guess the pacing of this film.
I was thrilled to see this come out but if you are interested grab it soon. It's on an indie label and those don't tend to stick around long.

I love this period of King Crimsons Career. Red being my fav. Crimson record to date. It took me a long time to come around and buy this. Normally a sticker price this high means I skip it but I am glad a didn't. The 20 plus CD's, the DVD-A and two Blu rays are excellent. The Blu ray with four complete shows on in it in 192/24 is cherry on the cake. Sound verys from show to show. Some are multi tracks, others are cassette sound boards and there is even a audience bootleg from one of the shows. They really took their time and did this right. In some cases using bootlegs to fill in the gaps of missing music. This was an act of love. The team that put this together must really love the music. In fact the only down side is you don't get the video included on the DVD-A/CD version of Red released a couple of years back. But I assume most die hards have that. It also contains a couple of versions of the USA live album. But again not everything that was on the individual release.
If you are a passive fan pick up the "Night Watch" or the "Great Deceiver" sets. But if you love this record like I do this will put a big smile on your face. Starless alone will put a grin on your face.
Hopefully I will have the money to pick up the other two before they sell out.
Now if they would only bring the new version of KC to Toronto for a show I would be a happy man! Oh and when do we get the 5.1 of Thrak?

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Another Interesting Stage for King Crimson!, Feb. 5 2015
Achat vérifié(Quest-ce que cest?)
Very good live album from the newly reformed King Crimson. This comes with the CD and a excellent sounding DVD-A. It's so nice to hear it without the crackle of vinyl but with a warmth of high end digital. If you have the equipment the audio is dream. DVD-A and Blu ray give you the best reproduction of music now a days. I have to make a comment about the gentleman who says its a dead formate that no one but fripp uses anymore. Well Steven Wilson, ELP, Yes, XTC, Gentile Giant are just a few of the artists that have released DVD-A's in the last 12 months.
The music it's self is excellent. Three drummers gives the music a different feel. The bass is a little heavy on the first track but is inline from the second track on. It was very cool to hear them do Starless. This is a worthy addition to anyone's King Crimson collection.
There is a downside to this set. 1) the DVD-A is only Stereo and 2) it only has a running time of 41 minutes.
But again great set so keep those DVD-A's and Blu Ray Pure Audio's coming!!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Velvets at their Mellow Best!, Jan. 25 2015
Achat vérifié(Quest-ce que cest?)
This is a great album. The first without John Cale and the first with Doug Yule. This album is a complete departure from the first two record. This record is mellow and has great song writting (well the writting on the first four records is excellent) and Reed puts a lot of emotion into his singing. The set it's self is great. You get six CD's. The first three are three different mixes the actual studio record. The fourth Disc is a collection of recordings from the '69 recording session. Discs five and six is an excellent two CD live record. Most of which has been unreleased. Sound quality is one of the better live recordings released to date. This all comes in a hard covered coffee table book (like the first two in this set).
If you are a Reed or Velvet fan these and the first two box sets are a must. Even if (like me) you have the "Peel Slowely And See" box set it is still worth gabbing these. The sound is better and you will get recording not covered in that set.
With Morrison and Reed now gone and any slim chance we had to see these guys live is gone it's nice to hear them in their youth putting out music that still is changing the face of music today!

Great DVD of what may end up being his last major world tour. I saw this show at the ACC on possibly what could have been the worset night of my life (don't worry not going into details) and it still was an amazing show. I have seen Bowie seven or eight times and this was the best show I have seen him do when it comes to giving a good career retrospective. He was also touring two of his strongest CD's he had done in over a decade. We even get surprises with tracks like Sister Midnight that he di Did on one of Iggy Pop's records. He is in good voice and his band was excellent. It's a long show running almost 2 1/2 hours. Great staging and perfect sound. If you want one Bowie live DVD this gives you your best band for your buck as far as hits go.
If you are a Bowie fan or just starting to check out Rock music this would be a good place to start. Bowie changes musical styles like most rock performers change guitar strings and this gives you a nice over Veiw of almost all of them.
I really hope we get to see Bowie live again but if we don't this is a good place to leave us!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great straight transfer of Sabbath's comeback!, Jan. 17 2015
Ce commentaire est de: 13 (Blu-Ray Audio) (Blu-ray Audio)
Excellent Blu Ray Pure Audio release. First off let's clear up this myth that Blu ray Audio's are compressed. Go online and read up on the format. They do not compress the music that is what's so great about the format.. Someone posted that all remasters should sound like vinyl and there in lies the problem. VINYL IS STILL COMPRESSED ! If you like the sound of vinyl buy it. By this logic if you love roast beef then why doesn't chicken taste like it.
All the compression heard here was done so in the mastering stage. That was the way it's suppose to sound.
Yes I hate the loudness wars as well. Many a great CD has been destroyed from this practice but Blu Ray Audio is reproducing the sound via direct transfer.
The album it's self is brilliant. Easily one of Sabbath's great records. But again if you want it to sound like vinyl buy the vinyl!

Trent and Atticus do it again. This being their third soundtrack from the pair and it's just as good as the first two. This CD covers a range of emotions without the aid of different styles of music. What I mean by this is this CD is a minimal ambent recording (similar to some of Brian Eno work but not the same) where it's more tones as compaired to traditional song structure and even tho some segments are very relaxing it can also get very intense.
If you likes the first two I think it is safe to say that you will probably like this. If you are not fimilure with ambient music like Eno's, Fripp's or Vangeles's and you want to check it out this would be a good place to start.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 As Always The Band Rocks!, Dec 30 2014
The Band on what ended up being their last tour with the original line. Just a few months pryor to The Last Waltz but a very different show. No horns here, just the five peice but all at the top of their game. The CD it's self is not as polished as say Rock of Ages but the sound is still very good.
If you're a fan this is a no brainer. If you are just checking them out and want something live check out Rock Of Ages!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Journey at their best!!, Dec 30 2014

This really covers Journey at their peak. Containing all three of their classic records and two pretty solid ones you would be hard to find a better 80's pop release. This music is not for everyone there are lots of power ballads and some really bad lyrics but over all this is pop at it's finest. The first two albums are pre Jonathan Cain (he joined on escape) so they don't have all the hit singles but they have a couple. Cain and Perry along with Schon really gave Journey their 80's sound and between them wrote all the hits.but that is not to say drummer Steve Smith and bass player Ross Valerie had nothing to offer. They are easily one of the best rythem section in pop.
Don't let me use of the word Pop throw you off. The Beatles were pop. Pop just gets a bad name because the media uses it to describe acts like Justin Bebber and Britney Spears.
You can't go wrong with the price and odds are three of the CD's will be played a lot.
I know Journey is doing well with their new singer but I would love to see the escape lineup reunite but I think that is wishful thinking.
