5.0 étoiles sur 5 Excellent!, June 7 2012
This review is from: Blunderbuss (Audio CD)
Just wanted to add another 5-star for this excellent album. Great for anyone who enjoys good-ol' rock/blues. I'd also like to make a note of the fantastic sound on this CD. Absolutely warm and natural, with no brickwalling or compression. A pleasure to listen to!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 An awesome, awesome album - but may take time to grow, March 2 2011
This review is from: Third (Audio CD)
I love Portishead, and so when I purchased 'Third' I sat down excitedly to listen... and, like many others, was disappointed. I put the disc aside and never gave it a second thought for several months. After that time, I thought I'd give it a second chance. That time, 'The Rip' sort of grew on me. Subsequent listens revealed the awesomeness in 'Machine Gun' and 'Magic Doors'. Finally, the entire album as a whole revealed its beauty to me.

I'm not sure if you just have to be in the right state of mind for this one, but there is an awesome album in here. If you didn't like it the first time around, give it a second listen - it just might change your mind!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Don't use the review section to vent about Amazon!, Jan. 4 2011
This review is from: Grinderman 2 (Vinyl) (LP Record)
C'mon people, send your complaints in an email to Amazon! This is not like an Amazon Marketplace review where you're leaving feedback related to the seller - reviews here should be for the album, and by rating it one star based on the fact that Amazon didn't have it in stock, all you're doing is making the product look bad. I don't even own the album (although I do have the Heathen Child and Worm Tamer 12" singles, both of which are cool), but I'm rating it 5 stars to try and offset this ridiculousness. Yeesh!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great collection of stories!, Sept. 25 2010
I first read Robert E. Howard's Conan stories, and having enjoyed his style of writing, decided to try this book out. I like a good horror story, and this book doesn't disappoint. Entertaining and bite-sized stories all around. I would suggest this book is worth its weight if only to read the story 'Pigeons From Hell'; while it has probably the worst name possible, it's a stunningly well written horror story, and is as gripping and scary as a book can get, in my opinion.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Stunning, stunning, stunning!, Aug. 18 2010
I stumbled across the band Mono while surfing somewhere on the web for something totally non-music related. I listened to some preview clips of the songs from this album, and was interested enough to order the CD. What a blessing that I did... this is a truly magical CD. There are no vocals, just gorgeous music. I guess you could maybe call this a post-rock album of sorts, but it's more of a symphony than anything. There are some harsh (but always musical) guitars and spartan drumming layered over a beautiful orchestral background - sort of hard to describe. If you enjoy any sort of music that has an epic, sweeping feel to it, this is a great choice. It's definitely an album you should enjoy start to finish, since it plays out like the soundtrack to a movie, rising and falling and finally building to an awesome final song. I also ended up buying the LP of this one, since it contains some wonderful large-size pieces of art that illustrate the story the that album tells (the CD contains artwork as well, but it looks cooler LP-sized ;)

At any rate, if you're looking for something new and interesting and simply beautiful, this is the album for you!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A wonderful album - give it a chance!, July 21 2010
This review is from: Wait for Me (Vinyl) (LP Record)
I hesitated to buy this album for a while because it got eaten up in a lot of reviews, both customer and press. What a mistake! I feel this album can't really be taken on a song by song basis, but rather works best as a complete listen. For me, this is definitely a case of the sum being greater than its parts. This is a bit of a slow, contemplative, even melancholy album - but there's a lot of beauty to be found here. The instrumental tracks are gorgeous and sometimes heartbreaking, the vocal tracks even more so (with the exception of Study War, which feels the slightest bit jarring compared to the rest of the album, to me). The finest praise I can give to any album is when I can listen to the entire thing straight through without feeling like skipping ahead a song, and 'Wait For Me' definitely fits that bill. My favorite Moby album ever.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Simply great!, July 9 2010
I had purchased this CD some time ago and somehow I lost track of it in the midst of my other CDs without ever listening to it. I found it the other day and listened straight through - holy cow, am I glad I found it! If you're into Morrissey at all, this should be in your collection for sure. It's a great setlist, and performed flawlessly. I would also recommend this as a good sampler for anyone looking to get into Morrissey, as you get a pretty good mix of older Smiths stuff and Morrissey's solo work.

Two thumbs way up!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Fantastic set - but maybe buy from Amazon.co.uk!, June 7 2010
This set is a great buy for existing Massive Attack fans as well as those new to their music. If you're already a fan and have all the albums, the 'greatest hits' disc is likely not going to be much interest to you. However, the 2nd disc of 'Rarities' and the DVD containing 11 superb music videos definitely make this a worthwhile set to get.
These rarities should be anything but, they're all quality tracks (I particularly like 'False Flags', 'I Against I', and the Madonna track 'I Want You'). The DVD is very spartan in its presentation, but the video and audio quality is great, and that's all that's necessary.

If you aren't currently a fan but are perhaps curious about Massive Attack and are looking for a place to start, you can't do much better than this. Every track on the greatest hits disc is five-star, and a perfect introduction to this extremely cool and interesting group.

Please note that this set does not include any material from their latest album 'Heligoland', so you'll just have to pick that one up separately :)

** As I noted in the review title, the price on Amazon.ca is very steep. You can order the same set from the Amazon.co.uk website for roughly half as much (even with overseas shipping factored in). **

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Wonderful set!, May 6 2010
This is a fantastic deluxe edition, everything about it screams quality (it helps that I love this album, too). The packaging and artwork are just stellar, with a wonderful 'papery' feel instead of the usual gloss. The photography and book of artwork inside are wonderful to look at; everything has a slightly disturbing but very cool vibe to it. Only one complaint, this gatefold sleeve is larger than a normal record, so it will stick out a bit further than your other records if you have them on a shelf, and it doesn't really fit inside a normal poly sleeve. However, this record is probably closer to being a coffee table book, so it deserves to be out and displayed! Bottom line, if you love Massive Attack, this is a great way to go since you get both 3 LPs and the CD as well. Coupled with the wicked art, you can't go wrong!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A purely listenable CD from start to finish, May 22 2002
This review is from: The Bliss Album...? (Audio CD)
To put it quite plainly, this CD is great. As other reviews on this site have pointed out, the music on this disc runs the gamut from hard to mellow. What makes this CD so wonderful is that regardless of whether your tastes lean to the hard or mellow side, the entire package has such a smooth flow that you can't help but be drawn into the music.
It's difficult to place this disc into a given category, except for perhaps "Excellent", and therefore I recommend it to everyone, regardless of what sort of music you enjoy listening to. This is the sort of CD that might unexpectedly broaden the limits of your musical taste; I know it did just that for me.
