5.0 étoiles sur 5 I feel like I designed the Elise, Nov 30 2012

This book covers the whole history of the Elise project. After reading it you will feel like you were part of the Lotus design team. Its focus is more about the S1 Elise but it does talk about the S2 somewhat.

This was a fun book to read. It was difficult to put down.

I cannot believe how much detail this book contains on Colin Chapman. There are nearly 400 pages of text. Also every page has a colour photo of either a car or a racing personality.

Well done!

This is a must read if you are into the history of Lotus as a company.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Great music, but no DTS MA, Nov 30 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This was about an hour long. I enjoyed the music and Chris' stage presence. It even included some of the props that I saw in his Toronto concert last month. Those were the burning piano and the large "pretty woman" prop. The image quality was stellar on Blu-ray. My only disappointment was that there was no lossless music track, just normal Dobly 5.1. For that reason alone I am rating this as a 4/5 instead of a 5.

I bought this product so that I could read SD memory cards from my camera.

It can read any size of memory card. Without this device my computer could not read 4 GB cards or higher.

This device works with the PS/3 and every computer I have tried.

I now own 3 of these devices since they are so handy.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Don't speak French but still loved the concert, Jan 14 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Celine sur les Plaines (DVD)
I am a Celine fan. I've seen her twice live and have a few of her CDs and DVDs.

I bought this DVD for my wife and I this Christmas. I understand very little French. A shame really, since I studied it in school years ago.

Packaging is all in French. The songs are all in French. There are no English subtitles. But, nevertheless, I enjoyed it immensely.

Concert runs for about 2 hours and 50 minutes. There is also 30 minutes of pre-show and 10 minutes of post-show footage.

Watch out for the last half hour of the concert. There are special guests throughout the concert and all are good but, boy, the last half hour features the best of the best, a total explosion of passion.

Alas no Blu-ray of this, but at least the DVD was quite sharp and the Dolby 5.1 soundtrack was solid.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Interesting background for the Die Hard movie, Oct 2 2006
This review is from: Nothing Lasts Forever (Hardcover)
The movie Die Hard was based upon this book. Later editions of the book have been retitled as Die Hard.

I am a big fan of the movie, having seen it countless times. I seem to like it more each time I watch it. I even have the John McClane action figure. At least I don't wear an undershirt when I watch the movie. Not yet anyways.

I read this book primarily to compare and contrast it to the movie. Now that I've read it I have these comments. I'd say that about 80 per cent of the movie was derived from the book. Most of the major action sequences were in fact derived from the book. The main difference in the movie is the addition of the tongue-in-cheek humour about the LAPD.

So which is better--the movie or the book? I'd say that the movie is better but that I still very much enjoyed reading the book. So if you are a Die Hard fan you will enjoy reading the book.

If you are reading this book with no intention of ever seeing the movie, you might think the book is average, possibly not worth reading.

Guess what? I also really like the movie Die Hard 2 and I've read 58 minutes by Walter H. Wager, the book on which Die Hard 2 is based. The book 58 minutes is truly sensational. It is a book worth reading even if you never see any of the movies.

Sheryl Crow - The Videos: The Very Best Of Sheryl Crow (2004)

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Razor sharp sound, May 27 2004
I had already purchased C'Mon America and really enjoyed it. Therefore buying another Sheryl Crow DVD did not seem necessary. However the price dropped to $11 Canadian so I thought what could I lose?

I am **stunned** at the sound quality. It is only a 2 channel recording but is extremely clear and rich. On my surround sound system running ProLogic II, this sounds much better than many Dolby 5.1 DVDs. My dvd player shows it is LPCM 48k/24b. Perhaps the 24 bit helps? Most of my other DVDs say 16 bit.

On this DVD there are only 2 or 3 songs I did not like. The rest of them I really love. There are probably about 5 or 6 of the videos I did not like. They are some of the older videos.

Several of the newer videos are really bright, colorful and entertaining. My 6 year old daughter really loves the "Soak Up the Sun" video. I do too.

The drums at the start of "Everyday Is A Winding Road" are exceptional. They are loud and flip back and forth between left and right speakers. Cool. I could listen to them all day.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Tears of joy, Mar 18 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a tremendous DVD. I have watched it three times so far and each time it leaves me with tears of joy. Sarah has really produced a masterpiece.

The most impressive part is the sound. It is not DTS but rather Dolby 5.1. However the music clarity and quality surpass almost every music DVD I own! Also, there is great use of the back speakers on many songs.

The videos are all entertaining, colorful, and creative--a joy to behold.

The only true negative, which one reviewer has already mentioned, is that the videos are all a bit hazy looking instead of being razor sharp. I'm not sure why they filmed it that way.

Having one live concert segment thrown in also seemed a little out of place but I can live with that.

In summary, I have not felt this level of excitement over a DVD in ages! WOW.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A sizzling concert, Mar 17 2004
This review is from: Gloria Estefan:Live in Miami (DVD)
I had known about this DVD for some time. I had resisted buying it for two reasons. One reason was the lack of 5.1 sound. The other was that I expected a two hour concert would have some slow parts.

Well I finally caved in and bought it, largely because of the great reviews it received here.

To my surprise, I did not feel there was any lull in the concert. In fact, it moves along at a very nice pace.

I was particularly impressed with how Gloria turned up the tempo in the last half hour at the point most of us would have been exhausted.

My favorite part was her chit chat with the guy in row two who brought the binoculars.

As I was watching the concert I started thinking, "Great concert, too bad there is no 5.1". In a moment of wishful thinking I pressed the sound button on my DVD remote and toggled on 5.1 sound! I double checked the DVD case--no spec about there being any 5.1 but my disk (purchased March 2004) does have it. To activate the 5.1 you can press the menu button and then configure the audio options or can just toggle the sound button on the DVD remote.

How is the 5.1 sound? To be truthful, it is better than the 2.0 sound but not a whole lot better. It is certainly not as good as the 5.1 mix on her Atlantis or Que Siga La Tradicion DVDs. However I'm still very pleased to have it.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Wow, 5.1 has been fixed, Jun 30 2003
This is my second review.

Universal Music has now remastered this DVD and I am pleased (thrilled!) to report that all is well with the Dolby 5.1 track. I have just watched Love Changes Everything in 5.1 mode and the video matches the sound perfectly.

So how do I rate this DVD? There are certainly some songs on this DVD that are a bit slow and not too exciting. However at least half of the songs are simply "stunning" and, of course, Love Changes Everything turns me into a quivering bowl of jelly every time, so I have to give it a 5 of 5.
