5.0 étoiles sur 5 ** GREAT ** Yoga programs for everyone!, June 6 2003
Ce commentaire est de: Perfect Yoga Workout [Import] (DVD)
Here you get two great yoga workout programs for the price of one!! Both yoga programs are taught by the same instructor, Sara Ivanhoe, a motivating friendly face. She is a great instructor beginnning both programs by focusing on your breathing. Breathing is key in yoga!!!! In both videos, there is someone who demonstrates modifications of the yoga posture. So you can choose how to position your body depending on your flexibility and comfort--- essentially work at your pace! Of course another appealing aspect of this video is that it is on DVD. DVD's are fab! You can quickly jump around to different portions of the yoga routine--skipping certaining sections or just doing the ab workout, etc.
The "Joy of Yoga" is a basic program focusing on leg stretches, like lunges, that would be good for runners (or after a long workout, stepping, etc.). Other poses included are downward dog and warrior. This program is approximately 30 minutes so it can easily fit into your busy schedule.
The "Fat Burning" Yoga is a longer, slightly more advanced program. Most of yoga poses demonstrated in this video focus on stretching the legs and back muscles (e.g. lunges, side stretches, triangle pose, downward dog, warrior pose, etc.). At the end of the workout, Sara concludes with a six minute ab workout, stretches, and a brief relaxation meditation. Please be advised, the title may be misleading because you are not "burning fat" in the traditional aerobic sense like jogging.
Moreover, I would recommend both programs, so buy this DVD and save yourself some money!
Enjoy! Namaste! =)

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great for BEGINNERS or a Quick Yoga Workout, May 20 2003
This video is great for breathing and relaxing. If you are like me, I always carry tension in my neck/shoulders. At times, I can feel myself squeezing my shoulders to my ears. This yoga video helps me to release tension because the instructor is always reminding us to breath, roll our shoulders back, and to let go... Ahhhhh, it is a starting place!!! This yoga routine is very basic and includes poses like the warrior and downward dog. The main focus is on leg stretches so this would be a good video for a runner.
I gave the video 5 stars for the following reasons:
(1) Sara reminds you to breath--this is central to yoga.
(2) All poses are clearly demonstrated. The camera angles are great so you can see how the pose is suppose to be done correctly.
(3) Alternative poses are clearly demonstrated by another instructor. You actually get to *SEE* your options (other yoga videos will not always demonstrate these alternatives). So you can go at your own pace and modify the program to suit your needs.
(4) Clocking in around 30 minutes, this video is quick and fairly easy so it is easy to incorporate into your daily schedule.
NOTE: One of the reviewers complained that the instructor is patronizing and/or too friendly. Sara has a very soothing tone, she speaks to remind you to breath and to explain how to position yourself correctly. She also smiles throughout the video--so she is not intimidating at all. I personally found her to be a great instructor because I felt like she wanted me to learn the proper techniques of yoga. But you must decide if these attributes sound annoying to you. I found her commentary helpful and sunny disposition motivating.

This video is a GREAT, low-key yoga workout. It is good for beginners and newcomers.
GREAT: Sara starts off this program by focusing on your breath and making you aware of your breathing. This is key in yoga! This program also provides alternative poses so you can start gradually and at your own level...you will actually see another instructor demonstrating these alternative poses. This is great and helps you to modify the program! The video shots are great--you can clearly see all of the poses demonstrated!!
BAD: I think the title may be misleading because it is not an exercise yoga program or an aerobic yoga program. So you may be burning fat but not in the traditional sense.
COMPARISONS TO OTHER VIDEOS:
(1) If you like Gaiam/Living Arts Yoga videos then I would consider this the next level to advance to. If you ever used/watched the Living Arts "Stress Relief" Yoga program then you will recognize some of these poses. And will probably enjoy this rountine.
(2) There is no comparison Bryan Kest's power yoga videos. Kest is for people who are more advanced, want a more challenging yoga workout, and a longer routine.
Moreover, I think all of the videos I mentioned are great. So choose the video that best suits your needs, your level of ability, and fits into your schedule. The Living Arts series is certainly for beginners (programs are usually 20 minutes and easy), the Crunch series is probably the intermediate level (programs are usually 30-40 minutes), and try Bryan Kest's Power Yoga videos if you want something challenging (50 minutes).
RECOMMENDATION:
Buy the "Crunch - Perfect Yoga Workout" on DVD which includes this program + another yoga program entitled the Joy of Yoga. You get two yoga programs for the price of one. Enjoy!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 *GREAT* This is 20 Minutes to a Healthier Life!, June 23 2002
A great video set for people on the go!! The 15 - 20 minute routines are easy to incorporate in your daily schedule. The beautiful scenery, voice-over, and music will calm your mind, while the gentle stretching poses will relax your body. Both videos begin and end with gentle stretching and meditation.
"A.M. YOGA" offers a very basic and relaxing yoga routine. Rodney Yee's yoga routine mainly consists of supine (laying on your back) positions and hamstring stretches. Please be advised that he uses a yoga strap for the hamstring/leg stretches, but a piece of fabric or belt could work as a substitute. Patricia Walden's "P.M. YOGA" routine mainly consists of lunges and balancing poses focusing on stretching the legs and back muscles. Other postures include child's pose, dog pose, proud warrior, and forward bends. The P.M. YOGA balancing poses are somewhat challenging, but should be easily accomplished by the average healthy person. My only criticism is that these yoga programs seem rushed. You do not hold the poses for a very thorough stretch. In a yoga class, you would normally hold a pose for 2-3 minutes. So this boxed set is no replacement for an hour-long yoga class.
All in all, I found both yoga routines straightforward and easy to integrate in my hectic daily schedule. After using the videos, I always feel energized and ready to take on the day!!! After several weeks of practicing this routine, I now feel motivated to continue exercising and to seek a more advanced fitness routine. I highly recommend this boxed set for beginners and those who just want a quick stretch.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Are you BUSY? Then start here to rejuvenate!!, June 23 2002
This is a quick 20-minute yoga workout. Great for those who have limited time to exercise! The relaxing music, narration, and beautiful scenery of California's Death Valley will calm your mind. While the challenging yoga routine will release tension in your muscles. Patricia Walden's yoga routine mainly consists of lunges and balancing poses focusing on stretching the legs and back muscles. Other yoga postures include child's pose, dog pose, proud warrior, and forward bends. The balancing poses are difficult and challenging, and I was struggling to maintain my balance. But I feel energized and more relaxed after I complete this routine.
My only COMPLAINT with this video is that she does not hold the poses very long for a thorough stretch and the routine seems a bit rushed. In a yoga class, you would normally hold a pose for 2-3 minutes. However, this video is advertised as a brief yoga workout. If you want to simulate or replace yoga class with a video, this is NO replacement. However, it is a great video for people with hectic lives because it is easier to make the time for a 20-minute video versus a 50-minute video.
DISCLAIMER: After reading a few other reviews, I think there is some confusion about what a "beginners" video should entail. If you are excessively overweight, obese, or have any serious health problems--you should consult your doctor before beginning any new exercise regime. Even though this tape says for "beginners" on the box, your health will determine your ability to complete any fitness program. Please be advised that blocks are recommended if you are not flexible, and this video adequately demonstrates alternative poses with the use of blocks.
Moreover, the routine is challenging and easy to integrate into my daily schedule. After three weeks of practicing this routine, I want to continue exercising after I complete this video. For me, P.M Yoga was the perfect starting-place!!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Wonderful Lessons in this Story ~ Set Yourself Free, June 15 2002
This is a short parable about living without limitations, and realizing the perfection within oneself. The story begins with a young seagull, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, who is curious about learning how to fly. But Jonathan lives with a flock where flying is considered irresponsible and pointless. As he continues to develop his flying skills, he is cast out of his flock and told never to return. This is where the real adventure begins with Jonathan meeting other seagulls, just like him, who love flying and are perfecting their skills.
This is a beautiful story about going beyond our perceived limitations of life and seeing possibilities. It is about freedom, love, and happiness. There are many lessons to be learned from this book including that we are limited by our thoughts and that we are capable of accomplishing our goals. This is a short book and a most enjoyable read. Appropriate for all ages. It is certainly a book that I will read again and again. Enjoy!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 ** GREAT for those with BUSY Schedules & Neglected Bodies!**, June 6 2002
This is a great video for people on the go. The tape is approximately 15 minutes and easy to incorporate in your daily routine. "A.M. Yoga" offers a very basic and relaxing yoga routine. The beautiful scenery, voice-over, and music will calm your mind, while the gentle stretching poses will relax your body. Rodney Yee's yoga routine mainly consists of seated positions and hamstring stretches. Please be advised that he uses a yoga strap for the hamstring/leg stretches, but a piece of fabric or belt could work as a substitute. There is also a nice, relaxing meditation at the close of the routine--which could easily put one to sleep. =) My only complaint is that he does NOT hold the poses very long for a thorough stretch and the routine does seem a bit rushed. In a yoga class, you would normally hold a pose for 2-3 minutes.
I found the routine straightforward and easy to integrate in my hectic daily schedule. After using the video, I always feel energized and ready to take on the day!!! After three weeks of practicing this routine, I NOW feel motivated to continue exercising and to seek a more advanced fitness routine. For me, this video was the perfect starting-place!! I would recommend A.M. Yoga for *beginners* and those who just want a quick stretch.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Start here to Learn how to Belly Dance, March 25 2002
There are some pros and cons to this instructional video. Overall, it is a good place to start if you want to learn basic belly dance moves. Here are some of my comments to give you a better sense of what Atea's "FAST Moves" has to offer you.
THE GOOD -- Atea demonstrates and explains the belly dance moves including hip shimmys, shoulder shimmys, and hip drops. You can see her entire body, which helps when you are learning these moves yourself. Also there are four individual dance performances and a group dance presented at the end. Each performer has a different style and they demonstrate modern and traditional belly dances. These performances may give you some ideas for costuming (though I hope not), choreography, or just inspire you to be a DIVA!! =)
THE BAD -- My main complaint is the lack grace and fluidity in the dance performances. You can count the beats to the music and predict when the dancer will change moves. This kind of purposeful dancing is not natural---the choreography should flow better from each move. I also did not like some of the music in this video-it is very corny and spacey (think disco-era and sounds of shooting stars).
THE UGLY -- This may seem superficial but nonetheless it effects the overall quality and enjoyment of the video.....The aestethics are not pleasing at all. The setting, costuming, and 80's hair from the instructors are quite unattractive and distracting. If you are easily distracted, then you may find it difficult to focus on learning the belly dance moves. If this is the case, then I would recommend that you get Neena & Veena's, Basic Moves Bellydance video--for a more visually pleasing experience.
FAST Moves is a good video for beginners and those interested in learning how to belly dance. I would also recommend this video to those who want to refresh their technique.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Lot's of hopping and jumping, Feb. 20 2002
This is an *exercise* video, you will NOT learn how to bellydance with this video. The video focuses on fat burning, which involves getting the heart rate up (cardio-vascular exercise). I am not a fan of aerobics, and found this video (and the boxed set) to be a good alternative to aerobics. However, if you do love aerobics or complicated exercise routines, then this video is NOT for you. This video includes a lot of hopping and jumping which may cause some strain on your ankles. Use caution and always work-out at your own pace. If you have weak ankles, then you probably should not buy this video.
I recommend this video to anyone looking for an alternative fitness routine. It focuses on a few basic, simple hopping steps -- nothing complicated. You will certainly work up a good sweat in a most enjoyable way. I strongly suggest that you *save* yourself some money and buy the entire boxed set, it well worth the investment!!! Each video provides an exercise routine targeting a different area of the body - butt, hips, abs, arms, etc. And all videos include a segment of Neena/Veena dancing --which is great for choreogrpahy or costuming ideas.

Ce commentaire est de: Friends & Lovers [Import] (VHS Tape)
This romantic comedy has a few funny moments, particluarly the scenes with Robert Downey, Jr. Unfortunately, he is not the only one starring in this movie. Claudia Schiffer offers a weak perfomance, and the story-line is just not that interesting. It is a typical romantic comedy produced by Hollywood filmmakers --guy meets girl, guy competing with another guy for girls' attention, etc. (you get the idea.) If you really enjoy romantic comedies, and can't get enough, then you will probably like this light-hearted movie. For those of you who want more depth to the story-line, and quality in acting then you should pass on "Friends & Lovers."
