5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great fun that can be enjoyed by the entire family, Nov 4 2006
I don't think it's quite worth of the 5 stars I gave it, but it's closer to a 5 than it is a 4.

Anybody can enjoy this one, but particularly if you have young children with you. First rate animation, and a first rate story as well, with plenty of laughs. The only disappointing character of the bunch was the skunk played by Wanda Sykes. Don't get me wrong, she's not bad in it, but she's MUCH funnier than what they let her do in the film.

Good balance of humour and story, and of course has the happy ending that everyone expects.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Some of Newradio's best, Sep 3 2006

This review is from: Newsradio: Season 4 (DVD)
When Khandi Alexander left at the beginning of season 4, some of the plots became a little uneven, and the balance of the show was thrown off slightly, the humour and wackiness more than made up for her loss.

Some of Newsradio's best episodes appear in season 4.

Definitely well worth the purchase price, as you'll probably watch them over and over again.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Another fantastic season of Newsradio, Sep 3 2006

This was an absolute gem of a show that got moved around the network schedule far too often. Sadly, the show was cancelled after its 5th season, although at that point, probably deservedly so. With the departure of Phil Hartman after season 4, it just wasn't the same show. That's not to say the show became bad, it just became average.

During season 3 Newsradio was still in peak form, and is one of the all-time best sitcoms on television.

If you like great sitcoms, this is one of the best you'll find, along with Arrested Development, Cheers, and Seinfeld.

With Newsradio, the 5th season is the only one where purchasing the set is debatable. Personally, I'll be getting it just to finish the set. This (along with season 4, and seasons 1&2) are unmissable!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The funniest show EVER on television, Sep 3 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I just got Season Three and have only watched most of the first disc, but I've seen them all on TV anyway. Even though they knew the writing was on the wall and the show was about to be cancelled, they still held nothing back and this season is just as funny as the first two.

The only drawback to the show was that it had to be closely followed by the viewer, or you'd miss the humour which is probably why the show never had good ratings, much like Police Squad. Let's hope the rumours are true about an AD movie.

Another complaint about the show by critics was that too much of the humour was "insider humour" and that the average viewer wouldn't get it. While that is true, I don't think it takes away from the show to the casual TV viewer, but makes it so much more funny to those who understand it.

If you're on the fence about the purchasing the series, I encourage you to get them all. You won't be disappointed.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Pretty good, but not exactly what I was hoping for, Nov 3 2005

This is your typical Consumer Reports guidebook, so if you're familiar with Consumer Reports, you know what to expect. If you're not familiar, in a nutshell, it reports the qualties of different brands of items and rates them.

Typically I've not been the biggest fan of Consumer Reports only because often I tended to disagree with their findings, but it's a good source of information when you're starting out at ground zero for information gathering. It's nice that it covers so much ground, but I would recommend other sources when possible. For example, find a good magazine on home theatres for ideas on home theatre purchasing rather than this guide book.

I bought this because I was starting at ground zero for a few things, namely cell phones and cell phone services for Canada and wanted some idea of how the different products rated against each other. It gives an overview of what to look for in phones and rate plans, but despite being the Canadian guide, it doesn't list the Canadian products. It's basically a U.S. guide with a 16-page Canadian section which isn't as good as the rest of the book. It doesn't go into a detailed rating in the Canadian section like it does with the rest of the book, and there's NOTHING on Canadian cell phones and providers which was very disappointing, since that was the main reason I bought this.

My advice is that it's still a good guide book (unless you're Canadian looking for cell phone and provider info), but don't really solely on this book. Use it as a guide and then do a little more research before making a purchase.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A PERFECT season 2!, Oct 13 2005

This show truly is a gem. It was supposed to have been cancelled after season one, but emmy nominations (and win for best new comedy) probably saved it that year. I'm not sure if it was cancelled at the end of season 2 or not (which is why there are only 18 episodes when the usual season order is for 22) but luckily again, Fox renewed it. I'm not sure what they're commitment to the show is, but hopefully they'll keep it around. It would be a travesty if they cancelled it at this point.

I pre-ordered this set ASAP and have only watched the first 3 episodes thus far (I've only owned the set for 2 days), but I've watched the show religeously on Fox and I can honestly say season 2 is even superior to season 1. Perhaps the producers knew it could be the last season before being cancelled and went all out in making these.

The only potential drawback to Arrested Development would be that you have to pay attention. The jokes and set-ups come fairly quickly and if you're not watching, you'll miss them. If you like quick, witty, intelligent humour, this show is for you!

3.0 étoiles sur 5 An incredible series, but easily the worst season, Oct 13 2005
I'm not trying to make The Simpsons sound like a bad show or anything because it's one of my favourites, but the first season they were still working out a lot of the kinks, finding their identity. The episodes are "fine" which is the reason for the 3-star rating, but not the great ones that they started doing once season 2 started.

This set is strictly for completists (like myself), although the comments by Matt Groening on the inside of the cover should be worth an extra half-star.

It's good, but ALL the other seasons are better.

There's not a ton to add that others haven't already written, but this show truly is a gem. It was supposed to have been cancelled after season one but winning the Emmy for best new comedy series probably gave it a bit of a reprive. I believe it was supposed to have been cancelled after season two, but luckily again, Fox renewed it. I'm not sure what they're commitment to the show is, but hopefully they'll keep it around. I believe DVD sales have been good, so maybe they won't screw up and and cancel it only to have to put it back on the air like Family Guy (another outstanding show).

The only potential drawback to Arrested Development would be that you have to pay attention. The jokes and set-ups come fairly quickly and if you're not watching, you'll miss them.

This is, however, the best original sitcom to come around for a LONG time, and it easily one of the best, PERIOD.
