Naturally, this is a great disc. However, to really get a grasp on the greatness of Hank Williams, you, at least, need to own "40 Greatest Hits". "20 Greatest Hits" is just not enough. When this was originally an LP in was, at least, "24 Greatest Hits". Sadly, "40 Greatest Hits" is out of print, why I do not know. Nevertheless, you can get it used on Amazon. In all reality, if you are willing to spend a little bit more money, you need to get the three disc set "Hank Williams Original Singles Collection". You get every thing Hank ever recorded that was not a duet or poem. Plus, you get several essential demos. This is, with out a doubt, the best box set ever. "The Complete Hank Williams" is great but too costly for the casual fan. It contains all that "Original Singles" contains, all of the demos and most of the radio performances. As well, as the poems and duets with his wife.

As one review has already stated, these are not the original recordings. The sad thing is that it is packaged as if it is a quality disc. The art work is misleading and the title Essential has recently been used on a number of original recording sets. The fine print, once you know to look for it, only says, disc one 1996. However it is blended in to the middle of the paragragh on the back. Major con jop. Shame on this record company. The only redeeming quality is that John died in 1997 and there is some sentimental value to the fact that these recordings were so close to his passing.

To all of these people who are reviewing the Guarini cd just to bash it, I have a question? Why are you still thinking about him a year in a half after the show is over, and a year after the release of his disc? Is it because you know he really is a talent but you were jealous of him on the show and want to make sure you help 19 Management keep him down? It is now an established fact that the poor sales of his cd is due to poor management. Think! Millions voted for Justin, and when the show ended his name was as much, if not more, known than Kelly's. Justin is the reason the show stayed on the air. His fan base started the tradition of having signs in the audience and traveling to the show just to see their favorite new singer. On the final show Justin and Kelly had to sing two new songs, not only one like the last two seasons. Both of the songs were "Diva" style songs, even Paula and Simon admitted to that. So for all the new people who only tuned in for the last show, who did not watch it all season, all they saw was Kelly nail her style of music, plus her one allowed song of choice, and they saw Justin nail only one song, his song of choice.{Although he did very fine jobs of the other two) He was only signed by RCA to prevent a direct competition with Kelly while both their names were hot. They did not allow him to have a single right after the show, as Clay had as the runner up, plus, they waited nearly a year later to release his disc. As well, they allowed him to make NO videos to support his cd or to open a show for another headliner. Their were no commercials or major billboards to promote the realease of the disc. Justin moved over 130 thousand units in under a month for his unpromoted disc, well on the way to at least Gold status. Then RCA refused to ship the re-orders to the stores. These are the facts. As well, Justin sings with passion and uses his own style. Kelly, Tamyra, Rubin and Fantasia all sound like a million artist we have heard before. Only Clay is an original Like Justin. And of course he was the runner up too. However, Clay was given Billboards, commercial advertisments, videos and concerts, plus a single the moment the show ended. I am not trying to say that Justin is the natural Vocalist Clay is. Clay is as good as any one ever, as far as natural talent goes. But Justin has a very good emotional voice, and Is the Best ETERTAINER the show has put forth.

Hank Williams will always be the KING of Country music! No matter how hard CMT tries to make Johnny Cash look better or to seem more important, even the legacy of Johnny Cash, a hundred years from now, will continue to fall short of that of Hank Williams'. They named Johnny Cash the #1 all time male artist in Country Music History, with Hank at # 2, they gave cash the #1 video ever with "Hurt", and placed the historic "There's a Tear in my Beer" duet with Hank JR. all the way down at #18, they gave Cash five songs in there all time top 100 and Hank only four, and made sure that the highest ranking Cash song in that countdown was right in front of Hank's highest ranked song. These things only go to prove that CMT is uncreditable and silly. This set and even the "Original Singles Collection" by Hank, put to shame the three disc set by Cash "Essential Johnny Cash, 1955-1983" and his new "Unearthed" set. As much as I love Johnny Cash(I actually believe that Merle Haggard is more talented and more influential to pure Country music than anyone but Hank) the Name Hank Williams will always be the reason Country made it to the mainsteam and stayed there. Now, for the review. When you consider that The "Health and Happiness" performances, of which only five appear, make up two discs them selfs, with the songs he recorded on those shows being here in their original studio format or being done live on a different radio shows on the set, and the same for the demos, at least one version of that particular song being present, and the fact that the only songs Hank ever did that are not here, in some way or another, are tied up in the courts, then this is as Complete as we are going to get. If you can not get this collection, at leat get hold of "Original Singles Collection" which contains 84 songs, do not settle for any one or even two disc collection.

If you are looking to own a basic two disc set of Hank, order 40 Greatest Hits used. What you really need to do is to buy the three disc set Original Singles Collection. The 10 disc set, Complete Hank Williams is a bit too costly, although great for the die hard fan. Avoid this "Ultimate Collection" if you can get your hands on any of the three I mentioned. The last six songs are live, not the original studio versions, the demos on here, though good, replace many other big hits found on the other sets. This collection is more of a companion to the first two listed above.

Ce commentaire est de: Pyromania (Audio CD)
Pyromania is the brdige between a very good album, (High N Dry) and a pretty good one(Hysteria). Pyromania is the great one. This album kicked off what Back in Black, by AC/DC almost did. Placing metal in the mainstream and keeping it there for sometime. Remember, for about 10 years after this album, Metal music was a norm on top 40 radio. In the same way hip hop is in control of radio and videos today, Pop Metal was by far the biggest thing going on MTV and top 40 radio for about a decade. Although, The Seattle movement is credited for putting and end to it, Nirvanna, Peral Jam, ect, in reality, they were still Hard Rock bands that thrived off of top 40 Radio and MTV, which would have never happend 10 years before. Pop Metal opened the door for allowing Heavy music to be heard by the casual observer. Def Leppard's Pyromania is revolutionary, not only for the metal bands that followed, but for the Metal bands that already were and received larger appeal( Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Areosmith, Metallica) due to what Pyromania jump started. Therefore, setting up even the hard Seattle bands. When you hear Photograph and Rock of Ages on the radio today they still sound fresh. Def Leppard's Pyromania, a true classic and true Rock of the Ages

Hank Williams will always be the King of Country Music! No matter how hard CMT tries to make Johnny Cash look better or to seem more important, even the legacy of Johnny Cash in a hundred years, will fall short of that of Hank Williams". They placed Cash at #1 all time on their top 40 Men of country Music, with Hank at # 2. They gave Cash five songs and Hank only four in their best 100 songs of Country music, and made sure to place Cash's highest ranking song just ahead of Hank's. And gave Cash the #1 video of all time with "Hurt" and placed the historic "There's a Tear in my Beer" duet with Hank JR. all the way down at #18. This only makes CMT look uncreditable and silly. This set and especially "The Complete Hank Williams" put to shame "The Essential Johnny Cash 1955-1983" and his new "Unearthed" set. As much as I love Johnny Cash,(I actually believe that Merle Haggard is more talented and influential to pure Country music than anyone but Hank)Hank Williams will always be the reason Country made it to the mainstream and stayed there. NOW, What I am about to say is very important. If you are looking for a Hank set for yourself or as a gift for someone else, this is the one to get. Let me explain. "The Complete Hank Williams", lets face it, is not very affodable and would only be respected by a true Die Hard. "40 Greatest Hits", though very good, really needed to be extended, as was done here. "The Ultimate Collection" is harldly that, with the last five or six songs not being the original studio versions, but live recodings, and replacing some of the stadards from "40 Greatest Hits" with demos. The demos are great, but don't sacrifice the popular session songs for them. The U.K. box set "Hillbilly Hero", is great for the price, but it only goes through 1951, the 4th disc is Health and Happiness shows, which are nice to have, the problem is they are in place of all of his recodings from 1952. "Original Singles Collection" is great for what it includes as well for what it does not. It contains all the singles released under the name Hank Williams, which is almost every thing. It excludes, with the exception of one or two, the "Luke the Drifter" songs, which were more spoken than sung, and duets with Audery, which were over powered by her less than perfect voice. Those, as well, really throw off the rotation, they are better listend to by them selves. "Ramblin Man" is here because it is sung the all the way, and was re-released under Hank's name after his death in 1953. This set has alot of great demos but does not sacrifice any standards to place them there, and they are at the end of disc three so they don't interupt the flow of things. If you only had one set of one artist in all of popular music, this would be the one to have. Hank Williams was the best singer/songwriter ever and is the most important and influential artist in all of popular music. This set shows why.

The only problem with this set is that it does not include some late 1951 or any 1952 recordings. For the price it is still great. However, you will need to pick up some sort of less expensive set to round it off with the great '52 songs. Some pretty big Hank standards were recorded that year, including, Your Cheatin Heart and Take These Chains From My Heart, as well, as many others. If you already have a basic Hank Collection with the big stuff from '52, then this may be the way to go. The Luke the Drifter and Audrey duets seem to throw off the rotation a bit, which is why I will always reccomend Original Singles Collection, which contains all the singles released under the name Hank Williams(all of '52 included)plus, many great unreleased demos on the second half of the thrid disc. You can pick it up used on Amazon for a similar price as this set. Even if you buy it new, it will be worth it.

Buy this with the Original Singles Collection by Hank Williams, and then throw in the theme cds by Haggard called Hurtin, Cheatin, Drinkin and Prison. If you can afford it get the Complete Hank Williams.
