The potential was there but it falls short, Jan 1 2004
Being a long time Beatles fan, I didn't like this CD at first listen. My wife bought it because she liked the movie. She plays this in her car all the time so she eventually wore me down. I can tolerate it now, in fact a few of the songs are quite good, but most, unfortunately, miss the mark. While putting my thoughts together for this review I realized that I like many of the McCartney songs, but very few of the Lennon songs. It's probably because I love John Lennon's voice, and could care less about Paul's. Eddie Vedder's "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" and Rufus Wainwright's "Across the Universe" are the only Lennon songs that I like. "Revolution" by Grandaddy (whoever that is) is downright awful. My favorite McCartney tunes on this CD are "Two of us" by Aimee Mann, Sarah McLachlan's "Blackbird", and Ben Folds' "Golden Slumbers". In fact, Ben Folds captures McCartney's spirit perfectly, his turn at a Beatles tune is my favorite. This was a great concept but it wasn't pulled off as well as it could have. However, I believe it is worth your time to give it a listen, you may like it.

60's girl group pop meets 70's metal !, Dec 19 2003
A weird combination isn't it? Yes, this album does mark BOC's selling out point, but that's what I love about this album. They even "out-Boston" Boston. Godzilla was the hit, but it's really out of sync with the rest of the album material, which, underneath the thin metal sheath, is pure pop. Some of the music is so over the top that it's almost as if BOC took Ronnie Spector hostage and didn't let her go until she taught them her best melodies! I mean, just try listening to "Goin thru the motions" without imagining a trio of go-go girl in shiny skirts jiggling alongside a menacing Buck Darhma. This album is a fun listen, and a wonderful re-living of the golden age of 70's pop metal. Highly recommended!

Woefully incomplete, Nov 7 2003
I suppose Brewer and Shipley were "one hit wonders" to most, but not where I came from (Kansas). Tom & Mike were our local heroes, KC area boys who made a name for themselves doing what they loved, making music. Much of their best music didn't get AM radio airplay. "Oh Mommy", was our pseudo-hippie anthem and, thankfully, is included in this woefully inadequate compilation. Tom & Mike harmonize as well as any brother act. Their songs have a wonderful folkie sound that harkens back to a safer, simpler time when "make love not war" was our slogan. I originally gave this CD 3 stars because this "collection" misses quite a few of my favorite B/S songs like, "Song From Platte River", "Don't Want To Die In Georgia", and Jackson Browne's "Rock Me On The Water". But I added back one star because it includes my favorite B/S song, "Rise Up (Easy Rider)", and another great one "Fifty States of Freedom". It's a shame that Rhino or some other smart label hasn't put together a decent B/S package.

Excellent mp3 player for a great price, Jun 15 2003
This is my *THIRD* CD/MP3 combo player, and I finally found one which actually works! First, the Cons (minor complaints). It feels a little "cheap", the cd cover does not snap securely. And the LCD display is not backlight. Now, the Pros (many!). Most importantly, this unit had no difficulty whatsoever reading any of my CDRs, CDRWs, or audio CDs. Also, it reads my mp3 CDRs much faster than other units I've used. It has a sweet 4-way rocker for E-Z file naviagation. hold the rocker down and it scrolls through the file listing one "page" at a time. Good sound with bass boost. The supplied e.clipz phones might take some adjustment but they supply a full sound. The LCD on the unit displays full mp3 tag info (title, artist, album, genre, year), and song time! You can select different shuffle modes: folder, entire disk, and you can select whether to repeat or not. You can select whether you want it to autoplay an mp3, if not, it displays the folders/file names for selection. This little player even has a programmable play list. I only played around a little with this feature, because I "program" my play lists when I burn a CDR. However, I found it was easy to create a play list. I am very happy with this inexpensive little player. I burn my mp3's onto CDR and/or CDRW and carry thousands of songs around with me, for a fraction of the price of an iPod.

Sweet sounds of the south, May 26 2003
The latest ABB lineup is outstanding, same tight rhythms and outstanding guitar work. Derek and Warren are both slide guitar virtuosos, but I miss what Dickie Betts brings to the table. On the downside, Greg's voice isn't as strong as it used to be. But he hasn't lost his songwriting ability, there are some memorable tunes on this one. If you're an ABB fan, you'll want this CD.

Overview of pk modeling, May 25 2003
I agree with the previous reviewer that this book is over-priced, especially when compared to the scant content. It's listed as 139 pages, but, considering the small 6x9 format, the book contains less than 100 pages of material. The material that is contained within the book is well-presented, and the chapters are logically sequenced, each building on the other. The illustrations and tables are relevent and supplement the text nicely. However, each chapter is but a short, cursory review, there is not enough detail. What Bourne presents here is more like an outline of what he could have written. This book might be helpful to pharmaceutical scientists who use ADAPT, BOOMER, MULTI, NONMEM, or other programs for modeling pharmacokinetic data. However, there is little here for practicing pk clinicians.

Still bad 30 years later, May 8 2003
I was there dude! I love most prog rock, and back in 1975 I bought this record in its' original vinyl glory! I didn't like it then, but I kept it in my collection. And I've played the record occasionally through the years, trying to find something in it to like, but never have. No melody, no hooks, the vocals are painfully awful and there is no instrumental virtuosity to make up for it (ie., Rush, Yes). I think the band members (or their mothers) wrote the glowing reviews here.

Other voices, Dec 3 2002
I am not a Steve Earle fan and I know very little about his previous work. I have "The Essential Steve Earle" and don't care for it, but I am impressed by this CD. The lyrics are thought provoking, the Dylanesque songs are catchy, and the edgy production gives the album just the right sound. I caught Steve on Conan O'Brien singing "Jerusalem", what a fantastic song. It is definitely the highlight of the CD, but, save for one song, the rest of the CD is very listenable. It's one of those CD's you can put in and listen all the way through without fast forwarding by a stinker. John Walker's Blues is an intriguing song. I heard the talking heads bashing it on the morning talk shows, taking the lyrics out of context. The whole scene reminded me of the press' crucifixion of John Lennon after his infamous Jesus remark. September 11th was a tragedy, but we don't all goose step to the drum beat of war. Eventually, other voices, those of peace and reason, will prevail. I pray that I am here "when the lion and the lamb will lie down in peace together in Jerusalem."

Should be a star, Nov 25 2002
I heard of Dana through one of my coworkers who was a childhood friend of his. I was pleasantly surprised by this CD. Dana has a lovely voice, his music is rhytmic and melodic, and his lyrics tell wonderful stories of life, love, and loss. My favorites on this CD is "In My Living Room" - a lovely song about childhood, singing to Beatles records and fantasy of meeting them, it brought back a flood of memories.

Kim takes a turn for the better, Oct 13 2002
This isn't the light and fluffy Kim we're accustomed to, this is Kim with an edge. Don't buy this CD expecting the same style of pop country music she has given us before. The songs on this recording will likely NOT be covered by any pop country diva's. Each of Kim's records has been a progression, she's obviously not one to get stuck in a musical rut. Unfortunately, many music listeners do tend to stick with one sound and are put off when an artist changes styles, hence the negative reviews here. Bill Bottrell's production will be disturbing to long time Kim fans, but it's a change for the better. The relatively sparse instumentation requires the volume to be cranked up to appreciate the subtle nuances. Music tastes are an individual thing and very subjective, but if you like well crafted music from a lady with beautiful voice and a gift for both song and lyric, Rise is your ticket. As with any great work of art, this record grows on you, each listening brings another "ah hah". Rise is great music from a mature singer-songwriter hitting her stride.
