I really didn't like the parts in this book about baby carriers, crying it out and co sleeping. Some of the medical advice conflicts what is given in other books written by doctors. I also found this with "What to Expect when You're Expecting." The Q&A format was not easy for me to follow at all. There is some good stuff in this book but after reading their comments about the above things, I wondered whether their advice was accurate or not.
The authors discuss various ways celebrating festivals throughout the year. What I found interesting was that this book was written from a British/European perspective so, it was easy for me to get new ideas for celebrating the holidays. There are songs and stories and patterns you can use to make the crafts in the book. I wish that they had color pictures though. The authors commented on this in the book saying it had something to do with a budget. The pictures were easy to interpret, I would just have liked to see them in color. The authors' ideas about a seasonal table were interesting and I plan on using this book as a starter for planning holidays and a seasonal table with my family.
Hygeia Halfmon's ideas about mothering are enlightening. She speaks honestly and truthfully. Although I don't agree with all of her ideas, I found something useful in very chapter. the only thing I didn't like was that she seemed to be advertising her other books and books by other authors she recommended.
I liked this book because it was small and easy to read. The month by month format was really good. I also liked how the author shared her own pregnancy experience. However, because the book was small it couldn't go into a lot detail. This is a good first book for getting general information about pregnancy.
