5.0 étoiles sur 5 A thrilled Spenser fan!, May 26 2012
Although there were minor subtle differences, I'm beyond exited to read another Spenser mystery. I might even venture to say the Ace Atkins has reinvigorated the series in some ways. Slight changes were better described in other reviews, but whether it was simple narrative description that felt somehow unfamiliar or dialogue that "strained" the ear a little(in a good way, mostly), there's little doubt in my mind that Atkins has a style of his own that will be reflected over time. I actually re-read Sixkill and am now re-reading Lullaby and the changes are more pronounced. It might even just have to do with character direction. I don't know. Great to have Spenser, Hawk, Susan and Vinnie back, anyway. Can't wait for the next one!!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Move over Dr. House and Dr. Wilson, April 20 2012
I can't say enough about this production. I read the books long ago, so I can't comment on the episodes accuracy, but the chemistry, the puzzles, the drama and the humour are all highly enjoyable. Great portrayal of Holmes by Cumberbatch. I'd give Freeman high marks as well, but his character is hardly as mezmerizing, which is as it should be. Well worth the time and money anyway! Too bad the English don't wear shows out the way the Americans do. After 8 seasons of House (a subtle homage to Holmes for anyone who isn't aware) it's time to move on. I could sit through at least another 10 episodes. Hopefully, there'll be at least a third season.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 They can do no wrong....almost, Nov. 23 2009
The office is the first sitcom that ever made me laugh out loud consistently. Whatever that says about my sense of humor, I can live with. Every episode isn't perfect, but I own them all and enjoy watching them repeatedly. They never fail to cheer me up. What a cast of characters! Highly reccomended!!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Brilliant Chemistry!, July 15 2009
Absolutely over the top! Intense drama, comedy, stinging social commentary. Wonderfully drawn, sympathetic characters at odds with people and obstacles that will rezonate with just about everyone. This is a whole different Brian Cranston with a real, struggling family and an almost unparalleled convergence of circumstances that lead him to essentially violate his entire ethical worldview. Oh, and how crazy and fun it all is. I can't wait for the second season!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 No wonder I'm under-fullfilled!!, May 9 2009
I read "Outliers" first and enjoyed it so much that I ordered Gladwell's previous books, "Blink" and "Tipping Point," and devoured them right away.
A whirlwind ride or facts, stats, psychology and history about the origins or success, Outliers confirmed what I'd suspected for years about super-achievers.
I'm no genius, but I come from a blue collar family where little or no "concerted cultivation" occured. Where an unlikely combination of: absent positive parental and peer influence, limited socio-economic advantage and non existant sheer, fortuitous opportunity, clearly contributed to my early stagnation, despite above average intelligence and good health. I didn't begin to realize my potential until I entered addiction recovery and came out of the closet at the age of 23(So being Gay and prone to chemical abuse got in the way as well). Certainly, Gladwell's premise that even genius requires oportunity and nurturing is valid. No one is born with ability, opportunity, confidence and motivation. I'm sure there are more than a few children of above average intelligence picking through garbage dumps in South America, who would thrive given the chance. Anyway, whether the book stands the test of time aside, it certainly was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it to anyone who wonders about the subject and enjoys non-fiction, pop-cultural studies.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 It's been almost four years!!, Nov. 16 2008
Yes! Four years and I haven't struggled with temptation at all. I purchased this book on impulse in 2005 after smoking for 25 years. If you really want to quit(ie. you have an open mind), this book will ensure the experience is virtually pain free. Allan exposes smoking for what it is-and addiction, pure and simple-as well as for what it isn't-relaxing, enjoyable, tasty, satisfing, etc.- by among other things emphasising that like any other addict, the smoker is in a constant state of withdrawal when they aren't actively ingesting the drug. The only thing that keeps a smoker smoking-and this is where the open mind comes into play...one has to be objective-is because the body is craving highly addictive nicotine constantly, in between doses(yes, doses..just like any other mood altering drug). Any "enjoyment" a smoker experiences is really just the temporary removal of the withdrawl. Anyway, he explains it all in detail, destroying long held perceptions about smoking having any positive or purposefull effect on the mind or body, and equally importantly, the erroneous notion that quitting has to be difficult. It does not. I know, because I tried other methods and I did suffer. It wasn't until I read this simple to follow book that I saw the light. You will not want to smoke once you extinguish your last cigarette at the end of the book, unless you really aren't ready to quit.
Otherwise, freedom will be yours.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Thoroughly engaging, edifying and entertaining!, July 7 2007
I gave it 5 stars because I couldn't put it down. It reminded me of reading Bertrand Russell's "Why I am not a Christian" for the first time. Huberman's collection left me once again feeling pity both for those too afraid to face cosmic reality, as well as for those of us who have only our fellow mammals supernatural delusions to fear. Meanwhile, I was giddy with the knowledge imparted by the vast array of historical figures quoted therein. I will reread it, again and again, for years to come.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 I still can't beleive how easy this was!, April 2 2006
After smoking for 25 years I read Alan's book in one day and quit smoking for good that evening. If there was a Nobel prize for helping people see smoking for what it is(and is not)and motivating them to seek freedom from tobacco, he'd have my vote.
If you're prepared to confront the absurdly tragic reality of why you smoke, and really want to get on with you're life smoke-free, beg, borrow or steal, as need be, to buy this book. It should be on the curriculum in public schools. Just the kind of "controversial", "anti-establishment" info that might get students running from the weed, as they should be. I've already shared it with one friend who subsequently quit, and recommended it to another friend who works in sthe addictions field. Do yourself an immense favour and give it a try.
