5.0 étoiles sur 5 One of the most ambitous McCartney works, Oct. 28 2003
This review is from: Press To Play (Audio CD)
"Press to play" is definitly less comercial than his earlier and later albums and definitly holds much more gems and interesting music than "Pipes of peace" (his earlier studio album)
the concept is based on romance with modern synths and samplers and many experiments (But not as controvercial as on "McCArtney II") - for example "Good times coming" is very "Trippy" reaggee styled song with amazing bas line,"Press" and "Talk more talk" are interesting keyboard based pop-rock songs and "Pretty little head" is very dark and moody ambient track with creepy chior-like vocals.
Paul mixes this dark tracks with more standard ballads ("Only love remains","on a upon long ago","Write away" with great begginig sample) and Rockers ("Angry,"Move over busker","Strangehold")...eventhough they are like from other galaxy they are pleasent to listen - Paul always make great pop songs.
If you are starting your experience with this great ex-beatle you should rather check his more decent albums such as "Driving rain" or "Off the ground" - "press to play" shows more wierd face of McCartney and may put off even his harcore fans as someone before mentioned.anyway - still these strange keyboard ridden songs are nothing else like he did in his career and are really really interesting!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Some Flowers and some dirt, Oct. 21 2003
This review is from: Flowers in the Dirt (Audio CD)
after "Press to play" paul released more radio-friendly and commercial album which has many great moments but also some typical eighties pop without suprises.
definitly there are one of Paul's best songs from his career -"Figure of 8" is my all time favourite with dramatic vocal line and catchy melody..."My brave face","We got married" and "Oue de soleil" are powerfull rocking tunes..."Put it there" - what a charming ballad! and of course perfect mix of Gospel and rock in "Don't be careless love"...
sadly paul made some Filers in here such as "Too many people" or "That day is done"...they could have been left for B-sides.
Overall it is very good Album, not Paul's best but surely a must-have for music fans because of "Figure of 8" and some other rockers!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Paul shows his dark side, Oct. 21 2003
This review is from: Mccartney II (Audio CD)
Definitly on "McCartney II" Paul is much more uncommercial and unfriendly for listeners ear than ever...but this makes this album special and interesting - with each listening you will discover many more great moments here than well known funky "Coming up"...
The best songs here are "Waterfalls" - charming and moving love ballad and another ballad "One of these days" which could have been included even to gentle folk-influenced "McCartney" album from 1970.
"Frozen jap" is introvertic and dark jappanese styled song with pounding drums and very dark mood...so is bluesy "On the way"
"Bogey music" and "Everybody knows" are funny bluessy rock and rollers..."Bogey..." sounds experimental bacsue of creepy Residents like echoed vocals.
This album is one of Paul's most interesting works from eigthies...the synth sound's and trance beat are propably the begenning of trance-techno music era ("Secret friend"!!!).
recomended to own!!!

After i heard the hit singles "Show don't tell" and "The pass" i wondered about what is the rest of "Presto"...i alredy knew Rush and i had few of their albums in my collection.many of Rush fans were telling me that this is one of their weakest albums of all time and that i should leave it on the shelf.but it bought it - and i found that it is propably the bst Rush album up to now!
i understand why people don't like this - the production is polished (typical late eighties sound),the tracks are no longer than 5 minutes (rush is famous for marvelous 10 minutes -up long progressive suits) and songs aren't catchy after first listening...but definitly if that album will grow on you,you can't stop listening it.
Geddy plays his bass here more gentle although some crazy bass lines are still to be found.there are almost no sytnhs but Geddy is using a bit electronic sound very subtle...("Show don't tell","Scars").Alex Lifeson Proves that he is one of the best "Atmospheric" guitarist in the world.and Neill proves that whatever he plays on his Drums he plays it the best.
Generally - if you love good Rock music or if you like RUsh you will surely love it...their best, their most moving (but i mus admit that "Moving PIctures" are also on my private top 3 rush albums) and most catchy...surely,a huge piece of music!

Pipes of Peace

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Not Paul's best album but definitly worth listening, Oct. 18 2003
This review is from: Pipes of Peace (Audio CD)
After popular "Tug of war" Paul Recorded a continuation of it with another smash hits and more of McCartney's eighties pop...
Many fans hate it but i found that iti s not as bad album as many of fans say.
songs like "pipes of peace" (the best song on album),"Keep under coer","sweetest little show" (awesome bass playing) or experimental "Tug of peace" are making this album worth owning.
and of course there are two classic collaborations with Michael Jackson - smash hit "Say say say" and less known but also good "The man".
If you are Paul's beginner fan i recomend you "Driving rain" or "Off the ground" instead of this one...But as is said before there are too many great songs that even the bad songs ("average person","Too bad") are staying hidden under Paul's golden melodies!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Rush - they are like wine - older and better!, Sept. 29 2003
This review is from: Hold Your Fire (Audio CD)
"hold your fire" is a rich and powerfull pop-rock album with memorable bass guitar riffs and a lot of synthesisers.
compared to "grace under pressure" or their other albums it is a true gem and an album most emjoyable from their whole 80's discography.
