5.0 étoiles sur 5 An entertaining eye-opener, July 2 2011
This review is from: The Future of Food [Import] (DVD)
This movie is quite the eye opener to the ugly business side of our food. The documentary does a pretty good job of exploring different aspects of genetically modified foods and what they could mean for future generations. Most importantly, regardless of weather you agree with the movies message (that genetically modified foods, and the business behind them are dangerous) or not, I found this movie completely entertaining!

This review is from: Wasted Orient (DVD)
What a wonderful documentary this is! Wasted Orient provides a look into the miniscule but up and coming punk rock scene in Beijing, China. The movie follows a group by the name of Joyside as they go through ups and downs as a band, try to promote punk rock in China, and struggle to make a living for themselves. At first, the members of Joyside seem like a bunch of alocoholic, wannabe rock and rollers. But as the film progresses you see a different, more complex side to their story. With interviews taking place everywhere from stoops and trains to bathroom stalls, you see an intimate and candid portrayal of a unique, and perhaps sometimes even tragic group of individuals.

One warning: The movie is in Chinese (obviously) with English subtitles. So if you aren't into reading your movies, then I would suggest you look for something else. For everyone else, though, I highly recommend this documentary! Brilliant.

I bought this book in the spur of the moment, thinking about how interesting it might be. In all honestly, it is kind of cool but the novelty wears off. Guaranteed you will buy this book, flip through some of the words and definitions (most of which you've probably never even heard before), and then put it away on your book shelf where it will sit to collect dust for years to come until one day you take a glance at it and realize what a silly waste of money it was. Why do you need a collection of Canadian words when A)You're probably Canadian and already use them on a regular basis, or B)Are not Canadian and wish to learn more about the Canadian language, in which case a simple dictionary will probably suffice.

I gave it 3 stars simply because it is exactly what it states it is. There's not gimmick or anything misleading about it. It is, in fact, a collection of colloquial Canadian sayings, with definitions and information about the words. However, I regret this purchase, it could have been money spent more wisely (like on a Timmy's double double...which I'm sure you don't need this book to help you understand what that means).

If you really REALLY want it, buy it and I'm sure you'll be pleased. If it's a spur of the moment, "oh cool!", let the phase pass and save yourself some money.

Epik High are one of Korea's top hip hop groups. As a non-Korean, I have to say that I feel so lucky to have stumbled on to their music. They really are a wonderful group! Lyrically intriguing and musically brilliant, Epik High never cease to amaze me. Highly recommended!

Ignition is a wonderful track both lyrically and musically. Very smooth and beautiful. Easily one of my favourites.
Break Down makes for a great protest song, with lyrics that are thought provoking and deal with issues such as censorship and conformity.
Even if you don't speak Korean, it could be worth buying this album and looking up translated versions of the lyrics. It's a very enjoyable album. I would also suggest purchasing "e" by Epik High as well, which contains one CD with a softer, more emotional base, and another CD full of energetic songs.

Love, love, love them!

This game is SO MUCH FUN! I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone! I'm a huge fan of Mario Kart for the N64 but this beats it hands down. The courses are really interesting, my favourite in particular is an autumn themed course that takes place over some trees. It's actually quite visually stunning! You can also play with people from around the world. Well worth every penny, it's such a blast!!

Flight of the Conchords is brilliant! I enjoyed this season just as much as the first. The songs are both catchy and hilarious and the acting is brilliant. Wonderful storylines for each of the episodes as well! All your favourites from season one return, including Mel, Murray, and Dave. Interesting special features inlcuding deleted scenes, outtakes, and more. Totally worth the money, especially since Flight of the Conchords is a show that you can rewatch over and over again.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Unfortunately I didn't like it..., Jun 18 2011
This review is from: Paper Heart [Import] (DVD)
Paper Heart is a mockumentary that follows one girl on her quest to find the meaning of love since she has never experienced it. As much as I like Michael Cera, and as much as I wanted to like this movie, I just didn't.
Paper Heart totally falls flat. I couldn't get into it and thought it was boring and pointless. Wasn't really funny and it seemed to drag on forever. Don't waste your time or your money, Paper Heart isn't worth it.

Yelle is FABULOUS! I don't even speak French that well and I still enjoyed this wonderful CD. The music is unique and quirky and will definitely have you moving. Safari Disco Club (the first song off the CD) is a great dance song and is perfect for cruising in your car. Some of the other tracks are very melodic and move at a slower pace, but still make you feel like moving. This CD also contains a few remixes at the end, which are equally as amazing. Just wonderful. Highly recommended to both those who speak French and those who don't!!

It's not a fabulous concert DVD but it's enjoyable. I bought this as a gift for a friend and we watched it together and she really seemed to enjoy it (but she's also a huge Tegan and Sara fan). I could have been better but I would still recommend it to anyone that really loves Tegan and Sara. If you're just kind of a fan, you probably shouldn't bother.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Boring Boring Boring., Jun 18 2011
I had to buy this for school so perhaps my review is a bit biased as I did not buy this because I enjoyed the topic. "Good Reasons for Better Arguments" is all about the structures of arguments and critical thinking. Honestly, it's incredibly boring stuff! I didn't even take the class willingly, it was required. If you're looking for a book to help you form arguments, this probably isn't it either. It's thick, packed with information, but very boring and unhelpful. Kind of a stupid subject if you ask me. Lots of definitions and complicated thought trees. The definitions are okay, most contain examples, but even then it can be a challenge to fully grasp some of the stuff contained in this text.

Teachers: There are DEFINITELY better textbooks to use to teach your course. Don't make your students suffer through this one. Awful. AND EXPENSIVE! (Yuck!)
