This book has a wealth of knowledge about a variety of subjects. First of all, it's a great writing source back. It has lots of great tips and suggestions. There's a section on grammar, and it actually uses humor to make it more entertaining. The book is easy to read and the layout is very attractive. This book is useful for both kids and adults, and there's always something you can use in this book. There's a reference section also with lots of useful information.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A very interesting book, May 17 2004
This review is from: Hakeem Olajuwon (Library Binding)
This book provides a very good bibliography about Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon. Hakeem Olajuwon is an amazing athlete from Nigeria who came to America and succeeded as a basketball player. He is my favorite basketball player from the NBA, and this book shows why he was so great. He's won two championships, and he even recorded an extraordinary triple-double one time. If you want a very interesting book about Hakeem Olajuwon, look no further than this one.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 An awesome highlight collection, May 1 2004
For all of you basketball fans who love to watch all the highlights and most exciting plays on SportsCenter, this DVD is for you. On this DVD there is a collection of the 100 greatest plays, divided into ten categories. There's some nice music to add to the great highlights. It's really a cool collection, which provided lots of entertainment for me and my brothers. Some of the sections were alley-oops, dunks, assists, clutch plays, buzzer-beaters, hustle, and moves. It was really cool to see some of the amazing plays I've never seen before. Some of my favorites:
-A buzzer beater by Jerry West from past half-court, and that was back in the day
-an amazing sequence of 3-pointers by Reggie Miller to win the game in the playoffs
-the gravity-defining dunks of Michael Jordan and Dr. J.
-Manute Bol with the most blocks in one minute and Hakeem Olajuwon with the coolest block
-an amazing layup by MJ
-an awe-inspiring shot by Larry Bird at the buzzer
-Rex Chapman throwing up a prayer at the buzzer
And much more!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Stupid comedy but funny, Jan. 18 2004
This movie is stupid. From the beginning the viewer is barraged with an onslaught of exaggerated political humor. However, the movie is funny and has its moments. There were so many things in this movie that were just so unrealistic. I know that it's a comedy, but some of the stuff here is just too much.
Head of State is about an African-American man named Mays Gilliam who is alderman of the 9th ward in Washington, D.C. Not that part of D.C. that we all imagine-the idealistic, majestic buildings of Congress and the memorials-but the ghetto. Gilliam is basically a low-level politician. At the beginning of the movie we find him being a hero by saving a woman who is in a house that's going to be detonated. After that his fortune as politician fails and he's kicked out of his office and evicted, plus his fiance splits with him.
Meanwhile, deep in the bureacratic offices of Congress, there are some big political changes in the Democratic Party after their candidate dies in a crash. The head of the party looks for a scapegoat to run for president so that he could lose. Somehow, and in an act of sheer coincidence, they stumble upon Gilliam. They pick him to be president and the rest is the movie where Gilliam tries to win office.
This movie is supposed to be a comedy, but most of the comedy is too obvious. Chris Rock is the main attraction in this movie, and he does have many funny quotes. The movie as a whole has lots of hilarious dialogue. The movie is basically a spoof and a satire of the political system today, and I think it does that job well. They poke fun at many of the recent political events. Chris Rock has many memorable phrases. When he runs for president he quickly becomes the most unconventional one. He ditches the prepared speeches and starts talking impromptu and from the heart, using some vulgar language while he's at it. This movie did have many funny moments, though, and it's good for a few laughs. Bernie Mac stars as the running mate with Chris Rock, and together they form a hilarious team. I think this movie is funny and worth seeing, but I wouldn't recommend buying it unless you're a serious Chris Rock and Bernie Mac fan, otherwise, just go rent it.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great basketball game for Xbox, Jan. 10 2004
If you want a great NBA basketball game for Xbox that's affordable and fun, then look no further. NBA 2K3 is a full-fledged NBA game and has all the features that you'd expect in a quality basketball game-great gameplay, nice graphics, and nice sound effects.
This game is also a really cool multi-player game. On my XBox I play with my brothers and you can play 4-players. This game is very comprehensize and there are a plethora of options. You can pick any team in the NBA, and play any way you want. You can make up your own players and play streetball. You can play a practice game or practice free throws (which are kind of hard, you need to press both triggers). You can turn off all the rules like backcourt violations and 3-second violations.
The graphics in this game are excellent. The use of lighting effects is really nice, and the game movements are very lifelike. This game definitely shows off the power of the Xbox graphics engine.
Overall this is a great basketball game for Xbox. It's a very good choice compared to the other basketball games for Xbox.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 An awesome collection of basketball's best photos, Jan. 6 2004
If you are an NBA fan or a basketball fan you have to see this book. It's a book filled with photographs from NBA basketball games. Even if you aren't very interested in basketball or the NBA you should check out this book.
The pictures are all amazing, and you can see snapshots of this fast-paced sport. There are so many memorable photos in this book that you have to check it out. There is the amazing photograph of Vince Carter suspended in the air for a dunk. There is another amazing juxtaposition of the tallest and shortest players of history. The quality of the pictures is superb and there are concise and interesting captions to tell you about the pictures.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A must for scrabble players, Aug. 12 2003
As a casual Scrabble player and enthusiast, I knew that I wanted to get an official source of all the Scrabble words. After purchasing this dictionary, I'm confident that I have the definitive source of all the 2-8 letter words that you can play in Scrabble.
This book does have some shortcomings, though. Some of the definitions are really weird. For example, when I looked up matilda it said something about a hobo's travelling bag. When I looked up the word in the dictionary the definition was different. The definitions of words are usually quite obscure. If the word can be used as a verb then that form is used. Another thing I don't like about this dictionary is the font of the words. Every word is listed in capital letters only (AARRGH). That makes it harder to memorize.
Overall, this is a good book though. This paperback edition is convenient and a bargain. It's portable, perusable, and pliable. There are enough words here to quench the thirst of any word freak. I have already learned some new and interesting words like goliard, otalgia, zyzzyva, and matilda. I frequently peruse this dictionary and there's always a new word to learn. This dictionary has more words than I can handle and it's mind boggling how someone can memorize these words. From the obscure to the archaic, this dictionary will provide you words that will give you an edge in playing Scrabble.

I May Be Wrong but I Doubt It
I May Be Wrong but I Doubt It
by Charles Barkley

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Charles tackles controversial issues, Aug. 11 2003
This was a really good book because Charles talks about his controversial topics and gives background for his stands. He gives a brief biography on his life and his upbringing in Leeds, Alabama, where he was poor and had to work hard.
There are many interesting anecdotes in this book. Charles talks about race issues and the plight of blacks in this country, and how they need to become more education.
There are many funny events that Charles talks about also, and there's a chapter that is talks about how you can't be serious all the time. He also talks about politics, travel, being rich and famous, and being unafraid to speak his mind. Overall, this book is a nice addition to your sports bookshelf.

Skipping Christmas
Skipping Christmas
by John Grisham
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Short and sweet, July 19 2003
This review is from: Skipping Christmas (Hardcover)
Skipping Christmas is a different type of book by John Grisham. It's not about law and there is not one court scene. It's about a small family of three, two parents and a young daughter. The book starts out with the departure of Blair, the daughter of Nora and Luther (the two parents). Blair is going off into the jungles of South America for a goodwill mission.
Luther and Nora, the two parents, are dismayed that their beloved daughter is gone into the mysterious jungles. Luther, the father, realizes that this Christmas season will be different. Much different. He gets an idea when he realizes how much stress, money, and pain go into Christmas. Why not skip the whole ordeal. No office party, no gratuitous and unsolicited Christmas cards, and no wasted money on gifts. His plan is to skip Christmas all together, and he tells his plan to his wife.
If you haven't ever read a John Grisham book before, this would be a great start. It's a short read, with only 177 pages. The story is wonderful, and the ending is superb. This was also the funniest John Grisham book I've ever read, and I truly enjoyed it. It's similar to "A Painted House" in that it's not about law or the legal genre. That's a refreshing change of style for Grisham, who incorporates a humorous dose of wit and sarcasm in "Skipping Christmas." This is a great story by John Grisham, and if you haven't read it I suggest you do. The beginning might seem a little slow, but don't worry-the book starts getting really interesting (after Chapter 5). "Skipping Christmas" was a great Christmas novel that changed the way I thought about the unique American and Christian tradition.
